Counterpoint: I live in Florida and the less that happens at the state level, the better. DeSantis and the FL GOP are doing their best to consolidate power in Tallahassee since they have a supermajority there and they will happily fuck over just about anyone just to show them who's boss.
The last thing I need is the assholes in Talla having more power over my neighborhood.
The powers that are in the middle east have no chance of peaceful cooperation or even peaceful coexistence. Divide it up and make it a protectorate of Japan, Ireland, and Mexico for all I care. They'd certainly run it better and there's no millennia of history and ghost stories keeping them at each other's throats like the current rulers.
I think the idea was "he's innocent until proven guilty" and removing him would start a bad precedent of ejecting people for illegitimate reasons. But now there's an ethics report from a bipartisan committee saying he's a bag of shit so they can say they've done their due diligence and claim it isn't a knee-jerk political decision.
The GOP is increasingly populated and run by children. This is schoolyard bully nonsense and has no place in the House of Representatives. the standard bearers of the Republican Party are immature brats.
I haven't worked in a restaurant in a while but as I remember it:
A waiter/waitress is expected to report tips at 8% of the value of the checks they serve - the government assumes they get tips up to that amount. So they have to report tips, but they try to stick juuuust over that 8%. If the customer puts the tip on the credit card, then it's reported. if it's a cash tip, it only gets reported if it's needed to get up to that 8%. Everything else the IRS doesn't hear about. Waitresses at my restaurant would claim their tips at the end of a shift so it was a daily calculation.
That said, wait staff got $2.14/hr and the restaurant was responsible for making up the difference to minimum wage if there wasn't enough business. That never happened. Also, this info is about 30 years old and in Florida, so your mileage may vary. Some wait staff make crazy tips (depending on venue) and if they have to claim it, they pay a little more in tax but if they lose tips altogether they lose most of their income.
moderates might be receptive to a compromise Democrat speaker
I don't think there's a single republican who would risk their next election by considering a democratic speaker, not with Trump's greasy fingerprints all over the primaries. They'll watch everything stop first. It's more likely they'll build a compromise republican that can peel off enough D votes (with significant concessions) but still carry enough Rs to win. To do so, they'd pretty much have to have every necessary legislation planned out for the next few months in order to get the votes and they have to build this coalition in secret or it's doomed.
He could keep up the facade because it's easier to fool people than to get them to admit they've been fooled.
