Ron knows that the taxpayers with the newfound burden were less likely to vote for him anyway. Larger urban areas in Florida lean blue, rural areas are red. Ron will screw Orlando relentlessly to make panhandle voters happy.

Putin owns the dirt. Trump was shown just enough to keep him in line and he's the primary conduit through which the GOP is controlled. Look at Lindsey Graham's flip to Team Trump. I believe that Trump showed some of Putin's kompromat to Graham and Lindsey decided to switch allegiances both to keep his career and further his own goals.

There's precedent. In my home state of Florida, DeSantis has already replaced two democratically elected officials for nebulous and untried offenses. Both were democrats and both were replaced with republican appointees.

I'd rather just a "Hide Thread" button but I can't find one.

The GA legislature has already laid the groundwork to deal with this. If the grand jury returns an indictment, they'll start waving this around in the press to test how it polls in the public.

I wonder what China will do. Wargames with NK? Start supplying Russia war supplies? Increase spying in the US (like they're not doing that already)? China tries to cultivate its appearance on the world stage but half the time ends up looking insecure and blustery.

It seems quieter than normal for now, but September is the busy month and we're still weeks away. I think this year they'll gather a lot of data about wind shear's effects on storm development.

Which brings me to my main issue with these kinds of laws: they always feel like stopgap measures

The reason for that is laws themselves. You and I may have different definitions of what an "assault rifle" is but could probably come to some agreement. Perhaps some combination of the caliber, rate of fire, magazine capacity, etc. Finding that form of consensus across the electorate would be impossible. The people who write the laws have to write specific wording which will be immediately and voraciously attached by the well-financed pro-gun lobby. It will also be attacked by ingenious (and I mean that sincerely) hobbyists who will do their best to circumvent the laws. I'm sure there are a few hardcore 2A enthusiasts who hate Trump for banning bump stocks, which serve no purpose other than to make a slow-firing weapon into a fast one... and just happened to be used in a mass killing.

I don't even know his politics but I'm reluctant to call Putin a conservative (and that means something else outside of the US anyway). Putin is a murderous, crusading mobster who happens to run a country.

I don't remember hearing this grief when it was the Democratic party in disarray (mainly during Dubya's time in office). As always with republicans, something isn't a problem until it directly affects them.

I remember when Roe was "settled law", too. They'll hear whatever they want if it lets them achieve their political goals. Remember that at least one Justice (Thomas?) was on record basically asking for more abortion cases to get to the SC so they could decide on them. He got his wish.

Honestly I agree with his reasoning. There are people on the GOP ticket I wouldn't support either (all of them). I wonder how Ronna is gonna wriggle out of this.
