  • It would be hilarious if there started to be real competition in cloud services from nations in the global south, especially if they start innovating in a way that makes AWS/Azure/Google Cloud become low performance options.

If nothing else, real competition would make standards for cloud services more universal.

  • Who said anything about guns, or even violence?

“Jihad” means “struggle.” Mohammed once said the most difficult jihad was the one against ourselves, e.g. the struggle to be better people.

So a jihad for polar bears could mean throwing yourself into activism for the environment.

  • I’m normally a fan of Chapo Trap House but they had a couple guys on on their Monday show who were very dismal about Ukraine’s prospects and I was thinking “Russia is a fucking hollowed empire, how are you saying they have an advantage here?”

Glad I was reminded that Russia initially said they would be in and out of there in three days.

  • The sheriff approached this woman in plainclothes and put his hands on her. I’d bet real money if he had been in uniform and acted with the most basic level of courtesy (“you need to leave, I’ll escort you out”) she would have complied.

He should be booted from office and the security company’s license revoked.

  • I was checking out that CNN news humor show “Have I Got News For You” and they had Mike Lawler on as one of the guests. It was painful to watch him stick to talking points on certain subjects (like Ukraine.) Even the GOP congress critters who are somewhat anti-trump act like they’re hostages, while the all-in people act like cult members.

  • I’m sorry to hear that. I miss a lot, both the sex and the feeling of closeness with someone. My social life in general has more or less evaporated in the past few years, so the challenge of navigating someone new isn’t even an option for me.

  • I’m curious what kind of human contact you’ve “tried” that didn’t work. There’s a world of difference between contact that is mediated through the context of work or planned leisure activities with relative strangers and organic meaningful interaction. Humans need to be social and feel useful to those around them. If that is lacking in your life, I suggest volunteering somewhere. Your local humane society almost certainly needs volunteers who can wash dogs and cats, or help visitors interact with the animals. Or there are likely a number of places you can volunteer to help people who are hungry or unhoused.
