  • I use mine to connect to my sound system. Also I don’t use the audio jack most of the time but it feels like an essential backup for when Bluetooth wants to be dumb and glitchy… which is actually not that uncommon now that I think about it.

  • It’s just a another sedan with a tailgate instead of a trunk.

Except when your attention drifts away from the road at the just exact wrong moment and you get into a serious car crash with a small vehicle or pedestrian, instead of the image of the murdered human bodies crushed under the bloody hulk of your stupid pickup haunting you (and potentially your family) for the rest of your life, the low sloping hood of your sedan scooped the pedestrian up onto your hood or the bumper/crumple zone of your sedan engaged with the other vehicle and a bad day was just a really bad day.

    Fuck huge pickups

  • Are you expecting some kind of rational answer? A fetish or kink is basically defined by the sexual desire for something irrational. You can ask how that desire feels to possess or how one goes about playing out that desire in a safe consentual way... but you can't really ask why, why doesn't really come into it. It is sex, all of it is weird.

  • I know this isn’t the main point of this conversation but the idea that the FBI follows or has at any point since it’s inception followed the law in any meaningful sense is frankly hilarious.

The FBI does whatever the hell it wants.

  • This is honestly one of the most pathetic things I have heard in awhile. How shitty of a parent are you that you bank on this kind of stuff?

Sucks that your kids aren’t going to be given a good head start on learning empathy.

  • I don’t think it’s fair to preemptively assume meta is going to be evil here, where is the evidence?

If a bear was charging you that you had just watched murder a bunch of people would you just assume it was going to attack you? What evidence would you have for that?

Personally, I think large tech corporations have a wonderful track record with treating the public commons as a shared resource to nurture and maintain not a coal vein in the ground to ruthlessly extract :)

  • Sure, every other time the water has kept getting hotter and hotter like this it ended up boiling but honestly I really trust the corporations here and I think we should just wait it out! They promised they were just going to slowly heat the water up but not bring it to a boil so I don’t see a reason not to trust them.

  • People really really reallllly want to believe there are laws of grammar/language like there are laws of physics and it is honestly kind of hilarious.

The power of language comes from there being no rules or laws, language is just the sum of what people choose to write and say. You can impose patterns on what people tend to write and say, but ultimately it is no different than looking into the night sky and deciding a couple of stars makes the shape of a lion and believing you have determined something fundamental about those stars.

  • The best I played this year

    • Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead with the Sky Islands mod Absolutely best survival game I have ever played by a long mile. There is just so much time and love behind this game.
    • Deep Rock Galactic A flawless game
    • Halo Infinite multiplayer it is actually good now!
    • Battlebit So good to have a battlefield not owned and ruined by EA
  • I agree with the spirit of what you are saying, but if you live in a swing state there is definitely an argument to be made about pragmatic damage control. I don't judge either way, if you don't feel like someone has earned your vote it isn't your fault that they haven't earned your vote.

I also agree that voting for the slightly less shitty candidate isn't going to fix anything in the longterm, but sometimes the best choice for the well being of people is damage control. Damage control isn't a strategy, but sometimes it is the best tactic within a broader strategy. That being said, fuck all that noise when people get upset at you for voting third party. You aren't the person that created a rigged system that doesn't provide meaningful choices for you to choose from. Someone can disagree with you on how best to fix that, but getting angry at you for choosing a different approach is just people taking out their anger on you for the system being rigged and broken.

  • Can we PLEASE differentiate between people who enjoy daddy or mommy kinks in a consensual fantasy setting with partners that are also into it, from people with deep psychological trauma relating to their parents that comes out in the vulnerable setting of sex? (one can be both obviously)

Is this that hard people?!?? facepalm

If you are having sex with someone with "daddy issues" or "mommy issues" and that reflects some weird way through their sexuality in a way that extends beyond fantasy into the realm of problematic behavior that is entirely a different problem and it has nothing to do with someone's "kink" at that point.

Yeah if partner just throws a kink at you without preparing you or determining if you might be interested in acting it out, that is shitty and honestly approaching the realm of violence, but don't throw other people who are into the same kink under the bus who would never just launch you into some weird shit without making sure you were onboard through a framework of consent.

Kinks don't make rational sense, they are the tension between rationality and desire. They are all disgusting, transgressive and shocking. If you don't like it fine, but wondering why anybody would be into it if you find it disgusting doesn't really get you anywhere.

  • I think what you are saying is mostly true but also you do have a choice. If you can’t bring yourself to vote for Biden because of well founded reasons I don’t think it’s fair to judge because of that. All the centrists start screaming and losing their minds that they are going to lose because their candidate sucks and blame it on people who have specific, previously vocalized reasons for not wanting to vote for said candidate.

You aren’t the problem if you don’t want to vote for Biden because of his unwavering support for genocide. Yes the alternative is worse, but election after election you can’t just keep handing centrists your vote who don’t give a shit about you or your policies (and actively shit on you while loudly posturing that they aren’t like you at all). At some point you have to make the threat of withholding your vote a real one, there are always consequences to that especially for this election but at the same time nothing is really going to change if we keep handing centrist corporate democrats the reigns to power because this time is an emergency too (just like last time).

I recommend voting for Biden for similar reasons you brought up, but I also don’t think there is any shame to deciding you can’t bring yourself to vote for such a trash candidate and want to choose this election so support a third party. Bad timing? Yeah, but it isn’t the voters fault for not wanting to vote for someone that doesn’t represent them?

  • I think that has to be part of the discussion, education. These workers are “unskilled laborers”, and that means companies can push them around however they’d like. There isn’t a limited pool of workers that requires them to offer comprehensive benefits, like with more technical positions.

First, and I am not assuming you meant it this way it just has to be repeated over and over again, “unskilled laborers” is mostly just a phrase the rationalizes treating people who do difficult jobs like shit. It’s like the phrase “flipping burgers”, it takes what is an extremely difficult job both mentally and physically and hand waves it away as a cakewalk. Working in food service is basically being an athlete that has to pretend to be happy and pleasant the entire time while performing an endurance sport while also constantly having working memory and task management skills tested to an extreme degree.

Second, there is most definitely a limited pool of workers if those workers are organized and the president doesn’t step in to shut down said organization in favor of a deal that basically was written by the massive rail corporations….

  • This is why I find the response “people don’t use rail much in the US, there just isn’t the demand, we have to wait until there is demand” so annoying. It’s like Amtrak sucks, I would have spent innumerable more time on trains if Amtrak wasn’t overpriced crap that makes you book far in advance like a fucking airline flight in order to get a reasonable ticket price.

I pretty much only utilize commuter rails like the MTA in Boston because they are so much more functional and affordable.
