  • Not moving any of the previously free features yet. Don't worry, it'll happen.

The compute power behind their dumbass "AI" push that nobody wants will not be cheap, and when it inevitably fails to turn a profit (because we all know damn well it never will), they'll be looking for new ways to squeeze users for revenue.

  • Assembly is just machine code in a dress.

  • I'm not attributing anything to anything, I am just stating an established fact as to why public bathroom stalls are designed that way. If you want to stick motives on people, find their original designers.

  • I can:

    • Accomplish damn near anything from a command line
    • Write machine code
    • Remember a fairly broad swath of special character altcodes without looking them up
    • Disassemble damn near any computer or other machine, and stand a good chance of putting it back together

    But also:

    • Use modern programming languages, including object oriented paradigms
    • Actually read what is on my screen and comprehend it, including error messages
    • Understand and operate any arbitrary interface without having to have it explained to me by rote

Behold my mixture of skills, and tremble.

  • This is absolutely by design, and it is so users can be provided the absolute minimum of Privacy-ishtm, but also explicitly so that management can easily verify if a stall is occupied in case any poors/junkies are camping out in there.

It's also so that public bathroom facilities can be spray-down, and you can wedge a brush in the gaps easily without there being crevices for mold/mildew and other... substances... to remain in.

  • If I were him I'd just let Putin release the damn tapes, since it seems impossible that anything could actually damage his image with his rabid followers anyway.

But that'd require one functioning brain cell, and if he had that we probably wouldn't be in this position now to begin with.

  • It's been slightly over a year since they did, IIRC.

They also sent out a ton of spam messages to their members begging them to buy stock at the time.

  • Just pick that fucker up and stick it on the other side of the Toblerone block.

And then revel in the inevitable fistfight with its owner that ensues. (Pro tip: Be sure to win.)

  • And they need to escape unscathed every time. We just need to ensure that our ratio is 2:1 or greater. There are more of everyone else than there are of them.

  • When they no longer have to follow the rules, the rules no longer matter. Violation of the social contract to that degree renders it null and void.

  • Well, this is really exactly the point. The fascists in power dearly want to restrict everyone else's expression, most especially anything that is critical of them or what they're doing. But they want to be able to espouse whatever odious thing they want without opposition, and want the opportunity to cry "victim" whenever someone calls them out.

This is, like, Totalitarian Fuckery 101.

  • Yes, you and I know that. But I predict that all of the soon-to-be conservative legal eagles will studiously avoid that particular truth.

  • It absolutely is, so you and me both INB4 fuckheads suddenly all become Very Concerned about the 1st amendment all of the sudden (butonlywhenitbenefitsthemandscreweveryoneelse).

  • The problem with that is this is software. We've seen this before. If the EU complains they'll stop doing it... only in the EU. They'll continue the fuckery in the US because it's legal here.

  • Yes indeed, I absolutely did. Still no joy, alas.

  • Any advice for getting it to actually work with a Garmin watch? I just tried it with my Fenix 6 (solar) and it doesn't detect the watch at all. In fact, even selecting "show unsupported devices" reveals that my watch's bluetooth MAC address isn't even seen by my phone. (Yes, I unpaired it and removed Connect from my phone. I also resorted to factory resetting my watch. No dice.)

At the moment I'm using it unconnected because it still shows the time and so forth with the watch face I want. But without any kind of connectivity there's really no point to not just putting this thing back in its box for good and grabbing one of my numerous dumb watches.

  • Capitulation leads to these corporations refusing to change and believing they can weather out the complaints and still come out the other side profitably without changing their behavior.

I can live with a dumb watch until they announce they're walking this back.
