  • I think you've misspelled cast iron. Or maybe carbon steel?

I do want some stainless skillets, but specifically to stick fond in from meat searing, not to replace nonstick. It's for actually the opposite purpose.

  • Ok take two, the wish is actually granted:

Your beautiful wife is incredibly intelligent and is perfect for you... as a result of profound psychopathy. She has chosen you specifically as the next in a chain of husbands with whom she has meticulously crafted idyllic relationships for the purpose of complete psychological and emotional control. Once sufficiently in her intoxicatingly romantic grasp, she convinces you of the simple joys of homicide. You eliminate her previous husband together, then your own family as a gesture of pure devotion. You fall into a pattern of orphanage arson, elderly abuse, and kitten stomping before she ultimately gets you both positions as mid level managers at united healthcare.

    You couldn't be happier.

  • It is all the result of paranoid schizophrenia. She doesn't exist, you estrange your family, and you ultimately die from a slow descent into indigence and squalor because you are unable to escape the prison of your own mind.

  • Darktable.

I recommend sticking with it and customizing the visible tools to your liking. Especially if you're not trying to power user, there's not that much to it.

It's not super "discoverable" meaning it's hard to just sit down and use it if you have never done it before, but it IS effective.

  • Then you maybe aren't one? you're born in the 90s which makes you heavily tail end.

Edit. Sorry I guess you're millennial out to approx 1996, but still, there are a lot of us born WAY before you. There were millennials in middle school before you were born. Don't be shitty about it.

  • I mean maybe.

I went to school through 23rd grade and ran a lab at a university for about 7 years. Then I switched jobs and pastures in industry are much greener.

I suspect there are a fair amount of us who spent too much time in school and also on donating our time instead of getting paid for it.

  • Heres a hot take: you didn't have to be that smart to be any kind of medical doctor. Good at memorizing? Hell yes. Persistent? You bet. Good at associations and drawing on things you've seen before? Absolutely. Good at reading between the lines and really solving the tough cases? Sometimes. Magic hands? Definitely if you'd like the big big money.

At the end of the day most doctors are walking on ground someone else already traveled, and of course there are some greats who expand the field, but that's not everybody. If youve got the tenacity to do any medical degree, kick butt. We need you and you earn your take with pride. You don't need to win a nobel prize to be valuable.

It is, however, NOT a job you get for being a great thinker. It's a lot of college and a lot of residency and a lot of shoveling crap. A lot of thinking? Not compared to other education tracks or professions. You can absolutely be a medical doctor and be an idiot.

This has been a soapbox rant about professional doctorates.

  • Agreed, but let's be clear about what "evenly" means.

If you have two children and one goes to college and the other doesn't, the one who doesn't go is getting shorted money unless you make an alternate arrangement with them.

If your children are adults and one lives on your couch and one has their own house and job, if something happens to you, splitting the inheritance down the middle is not fair: you paid room and board for one and not the other. Itemize that shit and it comes out of your roommate's end.

Starting at adulthood, equal is equal; it isn't "equitable". I'm not arguing that you gotta take Tommy's braces out of his inheritance, but you gotta take out the car you buy him to get around as an adult, bail money, the money you have to help with house downpayment, it all counts.

  • Depends on the choke. A 12 gauge full choke turkey gun can probably put a pretty tight pattern that range, but it's gonna work better with bigger shot. If you want super fine shot and a full pattern, you aren't shooting that far.
