  • Black widow was terrible, and Thor 2 was pretty middling. The others I haven't seen... It all seemed like a cash grab and downhill slide after ant man.

Can't say I am surprised cap 4 got bad reviews, Anthony Mackie has just not been a show stealer as Sam Wilson. He's not bad in the role, but he's always kinda broken the MCU immersion for me by being kinda b-list over the top. Of course... I can (and would) say the same about Paul Rudd.

  • Seems to me like kind of a long pivot from

Every single bit of progress was led by people doing more, by people standing up, by people applying pressure between election days.

    Why not just DO that?

I don't disagree that the shift in the Overton window is alarmingly far gone, that Dems are out of touch, or that the country is failing in real time. I disagree with the supercilious presentation of "political (in)action" by the people who ought to be easiest to motivate to go raise some hell.

Instead of punching all the way right, you're doing a big sad to your adjacent right in a huge lefty echo chamber. By letting perfect be the enemy of less worse we are only left with worse, and you still gotta live in it with us.

  • Then go do something, man.

Sitting around and doing a "noble" nothing is not standing up or doing more. It's doing EVEN LESS than voting. There is an absolutely real possibility that if everybody stays home it doesn't shift D left, it just results in nothing besides Republican control.

In that case though you wouldn't have to worry about voting for palestinian genocide, because it would be over and done with. You could be not voting for climate denial or not voting for something else, posting on Lemmy about how righteous you are, and bottling your own farts to sniff later.

I'm walking, stumping, and repping local elections and voting as far left as I can everywhere else. There is no far far left activity/activism you're touting anywhere to be seen. What value do you add?

  • The whole ensemble. Biscuits down first, whole or pinched into bite sized pieces, then gravy, then salt or pepper as necessary, then the crunchy stuff on top. If you add nothing else, trust me banana peppers are super awesome as a topping.

I feel like in the same way there are chili bar type restaurants, this could be done with biscuits and gravy.

  • They didn't. As I'm sure you know. The only unifying thing was "not trump" and "punish trump for doing loudly what others had done quietly".

But. What are D voters asking for? Is it any wonder the reps aren't unified if we aren't either? Of for and by the people doesn't really work if we all spend our days asking Lemmy how to avoid politics and watching ASMR videos. Or LETTING TRUMP GET INTO OFFICE because of protest no votes against genocide thinking you're some kind of fucking hero.

Everybody that allowed trump for any reason deserves to get a little bit fucked by the admin. We gotta do better, and this should make it clear to everyone that there. are. consequences.

  • The only platform is "we follow the rules and the procedures" and that's all we got. I would love to see a full progressive agenda, but the first step is, in my opinion, getting money out of politics or it will take a long time to break Republican control and an even longer time to push out the neoliberal old guard on the left. Then you have to fight this fractionation problem. With no ranked choice, the same old neoliberal is probably going to win the primary between the women's rights advocate, the gay rights activist, the pro Palestine anti war ambassador, and so on. I'm also against slow iteration, and this is why it isn't working. You can't just say the equivalent opposite of "guns, Jesus, and trump!" (whatever that is) and win a progressive left race.

  • Yeah I don't think that's as true as you'd like to think. It's not even about accepting outsiders, it's purely about agreeing what issue to tackle first. Seeems to me there's a really strong vibe of "I'm in if it's my issue" and protesting "what about my issue?!" when it's not. No concept of eating one bite at a time even though that's how the work gets done.
