  • Were the research papers used to train Ibm's language model not public? If the papers are public and there are no restrictions, Chatgpt and Gemini can use those right? If Chatgpt and Gemini used those, what's the benefit of using Ibm's language model?

Odd that heliophysics (sun physics) was specified. It's under astrophysics.

  • This reminds me of Blu-ray and streaming. Movie and series studios seem to prefer streaming over Blu-ray. If I'll stream a movie, I won't own it. On the other hand, if I'll buy a Blu-ray disc, I'll own it.

Lately I bought a Buffalo 1-terabyte external ssd. It'll be my backup ssd. The formats of my files are common so I don't have an issue opening those.

  • While the left mouse button is held down, I can put the window on the left or the right. I have no concern. But I noticed the difference compared to Chrome. In Chrome, the new window is there while the left mouse button is held down. In Firefox, it's a thumbnail.

For many monitors, I never had more than 1 monitor, so can't talk re it.

  • Political campaigns? A political candidate may want to know his opponent's supporters and may think he can do a more targeted wooing. 1 may say it's advertising too.

Also, he can send bots to the political discussions that folks participate in. The bots can start nasty political arguments.

A greedy religious figure may want to encourage more to join his religion. More members, more cash.

  • "The European Commission has exempted Bing and Microsoft Edge from DMA oversight due to their non-dominant market position."

I wonder if Microsoft's legal department advised Nadella to abide by the spirit of the law (despite the exemption) to prevent possible headaches in the future.

This is 👍 news. I don't use Edge. Google is my search engine, not Bing. 1 may change Edge's default search engine, but I never bothered.

Microsoft has been betting big on ai. They may be OK with "competition", "fair playing field" or "pro-choice" things if ai will give them billions in profit in the future.

It's 👍 that alternativeto.net is still around. I've been going there to find alternate programs.

  • The S23+ is my dream. Big screen and flagship Snapdragon. The S23 ultra is overkill for me. Of course, if 1 needs the features that only the Ultra has, he should buy the Ultra.

I'm excited re the upcoming big phones but I won't be :o if the S24 ultra will be the best big phone of 2024. It seems Samsung knows how to make 👍 big phones.

No ads on my Samsung a70 but there are preinstalled 3rd-party apps. I just disabled those that I haven't needed.

There are some Samsung apps that I haven't needed like Radio and Tips. There's a not-so-easy way to remove those. But those never annoyed me so I won't bother to remove those.

  • The Pixel 7 pro is 👍. No ads. Are there preinstalled 3rd-party apps like Facebook or Spotify?

It's 👍 that tester1121 isn't focused on Pixel and considers other phones. But if his Pixel 6 pro is still 👍, I suggest using it for minimum 2 more years. If he needs to replace it now, I suggest the Pixel 8. USD 641 on Amazon.

  • I started using Windows 11 in December 2023 and tried to just use sleep. My 🔋 drained fast while my 💻 was on sleep. I expected it. AMD and Intel processors generally aren't as efficient as the Apple M soc.

While it was on sleep, there were times it suddenly needed to restart.

I once had a blue screen of death too.

So now, I shut it down most of the time. Windows 11 boot-ups and shutdowns are surprisingly fast. :)
