  • Yeah, MP Trios and glance which are type c only, latter also having hdmi. Though last time I dealt with desktop equipment I think was within 5 years but the pieces were probably more than 5 years old, think those were xiaomi a1's and some random chineese FHD panels, with either 1650 or 1050 cards when we've built some budget workstations. I swear I didn't try to avoid DP, just got lucky to deal with last pieces of equipment without it, and working remote on laptops got me severely out of touch with modern hardware.

  • Yeah. It's a video interface but I have never seen the physical port, as I've said I have 6 monitors hooked using it's signalling protocol, but all the physical connections are either type-c(DP alt mode) or eDP.

  • I gotta confess, as an IT guy I have never ever seen displayport in my life. Not a port, nor a cable. Which is especially weird given that I have 6 displays hooked up that technically use it without a single actual port.

  • Just checked, our very corporate and much antiquated website does accept apng (sadly not publicly visible as it's b2b only). We do deal with photography though, so we do expect multitude of formats and mostly either pass them unchanged or just feed them to ImageMagick and forget about it. The bane of our existence is mostly DNG which Adobe breaks every year or so by introducing breaking spec changes.

EDIT: Haven't found a place to even get an mng sample, though. Do you have any?

  • It's not just gapps, though. Search, gtags/adsense, youtube, maps, etc are all so pervasive that google effectively controls the internet. You can try run ublock and a plethora of privacy addons, but those are only effective as long as Google is playing nice. Others, like Yandex, are not, and they defeat all those with ease.

Though I'd say running custom rom is an exception from the rule, along with people running with dumb or even no phone, but those are not but a blip on a big picture.

  • You can absolutely use monero without converting it to other currency. You just haven't looked in right places. Of course you can't buy a loaf of bread with it, but you cannot use gold either, neither can you rent a server with something like mongolian togrog, yet, they're all still valid forms of currency.

  • I remember when I was tasked with fixing up a personal/work PC of my colleague who was our lead artist. I was a bit shocked to see WinXP there, when win10 was already the norm, and with quite a bunch of severely outdated software on it. At the time, I thought "well, at least it does the job well enough for him to be still employed". Now I understand that he was probably onto something...

  • Ah so it's about the same-ish functionality as supergfxctl and system76-power it seems. For me I'm searching for more granular control. e.g. if I'm gaming with dGPU-primary I might want to move browser and such to iGPU to free up dGPU VRAM, or just to put it to lower power states because spinning this behemoth up for youtube videos seems inefficient. Otherwise, when I'm in iGPU primary, it sometimes misdetects when to activate the dGPU and chokes the poor little thing down or, again, spins up the dGPU needlessly.

  • Not really. As a programmer who doesn't deal with math like at all, just working on overly-complicated CRUD's, and even for me the AI is still completely wrong and/or waste of time 9 times out of 10. And I can usually spot when my colleagues are trying to use LLM's because they submit overly descriptive yet completely fucking pointless refactors in their PR's.

  • I thought that monster's target audience is dirbikers, downhill riders, skaters etc, not metal bands, barbers and hipsters? I think they're outcompeted by craft beer among all three

  • As a webdev I feel like the whole internet is dying. Everything is an app now, fully controlled by google, so privacy goes out the window, and none of it is searchable anyway as genAI made search engines toast. And everyone and their cat just seem go around blocking entire /8's willy-nilly breaking the whole global network concept... Does anyone have any tips which career path to switch to?
