  • Slackware gets a lot of hate, especially from the btw bros. People are spooked about having to manage their own dependencies. But I couldn't agree with you more on simplicity and stability. I've been daily driving slackware since 99 or 00, and I don't think I've ever broken something I couldn't immediately roll back and fix.

I tried to install Ubuntu on a sbc recently. And within an hour of installing this and that with all the different dependencies, I had a completely unusable system. And I had no idea how to fix it. It was totally my fault but reminded me what I love about slackware.

  • I wish I could stick with something like this. I used to get in trouble as a kid for not keeping track of stuff better. What good is a notebook when you forget to check it, or even write down stuff in the first place?

I most recently installed Joplin and thought it would be life changing. I gave up pretty quick because I suck.

  • And that's where you need to ask around. The best options are all word of mouth.

  • Tivimate is amazing. The UI is super intuitive. I paid the $30 for a lifetime license.

Edit: tivimate will only play content you've already subscribed to. If you're looking for a different iptv provider then you'll have to ask around.

  • I of course found my way here from reddit. I started lurking on mastodon occasionally when musk first took over Twitter, but I didn't get into it. I wasn't a Twitter user either. This looks more like my jam though.

I'm a lifelong chicagoan (nw side). I've been daily driving slackware since the late 90s. I play a mean bass. I smoke meat when the mood strikes. I bought a fixer upper without the skills or budget to fix it up. I have a 4 year old daughter. I work in international logistics.
