  • The only reason I ever got rid of my original brother laser printer is because computers stopped coming with parallel ports, and the adapters I tried all sucked.

2nd Brother laser printer is still going strong after 15yrs.

  • Are you updating Debian on a potato with every single one of the 74000+ packages installed? Because even on my slowest machines (going back decades) it's never taken anywhere near that kind of time to complete a full version upgrade, let alone just an update.

  • The only stuff, that's popular, that I have no opinion on is Babylon 5, mainly because I have not watched any of it

I highly recommend you watch it. Just keep in mind the first season (esp the first half) is tough, some bad dialog and acting. But it has important character and setting development.

The end of season 1 things get better, and by the first few episodes of season 2 you'll be hooked.

At the end of the day, I bet you'll acknowledge that B5 has BOTH some of the worst writing/acting you'll see in a TV show, AND some of the best writing/acting you'll ever see anywhere.

  • the least terrible Republican that isn't trump for this primary election.

And who might that be? While Trump is by far the worst, none of the others seem significantly better than each other.

Plus everyone, but Haley and Trump have dropped out.

  • That's true of every study ever made, especially in today's media environment.

And every probably done study includes acknowledgments of known shortcomings, most of the ones I've read include suggestions or thoughts about future studies that could be done to account for those known issues.

Media is to blame for most of the misinterpretations, not the studies themselves. It's impossible to create a single, perfect study that can't be misconstrued in some way.

  • No, odds are your parents didn't buy a house in their 20s. Certainly it wasn't common. And once they did, it was likely a small house. And it's starting to piss me off that young adults think it was common.

    • We (GenX) were 30 in a MCOL area, but with very good paying careers.
    • My (boomer) parents were 35 when they finally got to buy a house in a LCOL area - and it was a real fixer upper that hadn't been lived in for 2 years.
    • Their (Silent/Greatest) parents didn't buy a house until they were in their mid-30s in a M/HCOL area. On my mom's side it was a 800ish sqft duplex with 1 bathroom where they raised 3 kids. Father's side hadbit more room (maybe 1300ish) but still 1 bathroom and 3 kids.

And up to the point where we did buy a house, I always lived with roommates. There was only a couple month period where I ever lived by myself in an apartment, and it was a stretch, and I was glad (financially anyway) when I got a roommate again.

Neither of my parents ever lived alone l. They lived at home until they got married and rented together. Same for all my grandparents.

  • My speed is garbage whether I just type or use the swipe. Mainly because unlike using an actual keyboard where I can get over 100wpm, I can't really touch type so I have to constantly switch between looking at the keyboard and looking at the text coming up.
