  • If this is for the betterment of humanity, then I suppose the tech and research is all open source and freely available for anyone to peruse? That this patient with electronics implanted in them is free to do as they please to the hardware and software of said electronics?

  • Yeah I’m the same. Sometimes I wanna disconnect when I go for walkies with my dog. Not bringing the phone removes distractions and the like. It’s nice.

  • Haven't the foggiest! I have some photos on mine that rotate through as watch faces, as well as some music, some podcasts, and the audiobook I'm currently listening to - for when I leave my phone at home and opt for going with just my watch. And I still have over 20 gigs!

There isn't really much I feasibly want to put on my watch. There's a few fitness apps that cover some niche stuff that Apple's own apps don't cover. There are hydration apps, but I don't particularly need someone to remind me to drink. I'd rather die than use my watch for video consumption, and dito for anything productivity related. There's no email in the world important enough for me to warrant answering through my bloody watch.

  • Good question. I haven't got an answer for that. We could start off by pruning off the top; anyone with a net worth above a billion can't possibly have earned that kind of money. 900 million is just as unlikely.

A modicum of luck obviously plays a part as well; Facebook for example started off as a fairly innocuous website for ranking the attractiveness of university students; poor in taste and judgement but hardly evil. That's not exactly where we are today, is it? Have you read about how facebook treats its content moderation team? Ol' Zucky is responsible for that and so much more.

There's only so much you can earn through hard work and good luck before you'll start having to make unethical and evil choices to keep raking in the cash. Rich people don't need or deserve any empathy, because they won't have any for you.

  • They didn’t have 32gb storage? It’s rare for Apple to pull ahead in terms of storage because they’re greedy fuckwits, I kind of thought Android watches had hundreds of gig at this point.

That said, what do you even use watch storage for?

  • LMAO AS FUCKING IF. Rich people aren't capable of feeling any sort of empathy-adjacent emotions. If you're rich and think you can feel empathy there are two possible scenarios at play;
    a) You're wrong about being rich
    b) You're wrong about feeling empathy

  • I wholeheartedly support your efforts.

  • I won't fight you over that, I think they were good too. I'd love a modern third-person ARPG in the Divinity universe. The "build your own ghoul" mechanic was really fun, and obviously turning into a fucking dragon was epic too.

  • It's not her actions, it's her past workplaces. AirBnB in particular is concerning. It's not exactly a secret that thanks to AirBnBs business model, and the lack of regulation of it, that the housing markets in several countries have gotten fucked completely. Something she chose to work with and directly support.

I somehow rank the right to have a place to live slightly above the right to have open access to the internet (though not by much), and as such I wouldn't want anyone with her affiliations in any such senior position at Mozilla, temporary or no.

  • Laura. Her past affiliations are concerning. I'm aware she's seated on an interim position, but I can't imagine that there weren't any better candidates.

  • That's not at all what I said. You're conflating my comment with that of someone else.

  • This is fantastic. That said, Mozilla should really reconsider their own CEO too.

  • I think making something on par with BG3 will be incredibly tough. Wouldn't mind seeing them branch out and try something new again. Larian has done a bunch of different stuff before. A modern take on Ego Draconis would be really cool.

  • That's fair. I've a bunch of friends who love the DnD system in it.

  • Yeah I felt like DOS2 had really improved on the already good formula that was DOS, and BG3 using the DnD system felt like a big step back. It's still a great game, but I feel like it is in spite of the DND systems (not the setting), not because of it. DND doesn't feel suited for the computer, it really fits better on the tabletop.

  • I'm not. But yeah, I'd easily vote for Biden. Not because he strikes me as a good and capable president, quite far from it, but because he's obviously leaps and bounds better than the other train wreck of a human being.

Honestly American politics would be funny in their ridiculousness if they didn't set the tone for politics here in the years to come.

  • Yeah and then keep stomping.

I’m loving how governments are finally starting to stomp on corporations. I only wish they’d stomp *harder. *

  • As someone from Northern Europe -Sweden specifically - we're not socialist. We're a constitutional monarchy, with a parliamentary system, and we're very much a capitalist society. We have a decent amount of social safety nets (which are being eroded by the right-wing powers that be as we speak), and strong labour laws (dito).

  • People work their bodies into breaking in these kinds of jobs, which I just find ethically wrong. I get that there are risks with every job, but basically being guaranteed to get injuries from repetitive motions etc. is a big ask. I support robots taking over such tasks.

I also don't think it's a hot take that Mercedes (and fucking everyone) should support UBI. Everyone has a right to live, and if we must have this capitalistic society, then everyone should have some means of access to it. No one chooses to be born, but once they are we as a society have a responsibility to ensure that they can live their lives with dignity.

If companies want to partake in society, they better contribute to it as well.
