  • This isn't a place for the broad public though. I live in a place that is 75% conservatives and they are not welcome here. It doesn't work both ways. Either you stay what you are and grow very slowly, or you allow different thoughts. It won't happen, but Lemmy would quickly outgrow it's current capacity if it did.

  • Spoiler, assholes own everything. Good luck finding products that don't make people you hate richer. Yeah you can find small niche products like beard wax from a local guy, but a car? Please tell me about a great car company.

  • This should have happened awhile ago. Lots of good people work at Tesla and I'd like to be able to buy an American made electric without worrying about vandalism or worse. Yeah there are a couple of other options but this should be one too.

  • It's way more than one shop. Meh, shop there anyway if you like anything they sell. Chances are your government is blowing ridiculous money on bullshit anyway. Pay cash too when you can. And do everything you can to resist digital spending tracking.

  • No but I've been detained for no reason way too many times. Honestly this was half the reason I made the comment I did. Every time you're pulled over for a traffic stop you're detained. The writers need to make it clear that what is going on goes way beyond a basic detainment.

  • Probably in the middle. Closer to 50 or 60, but you're not wrong in saying I exaggerated. Fifty does feel like a hundred though. Sitting on the curb in handcuffs when you didn't break any laws. That's California cops for you though.

  • I'm a citizen and I've been detained like 100 times and I have a clean record. Detaining people over bs isn't new. It's nice that people seem to care at the moment but I bet they don't care enough to fix it, because most people underneath it all are authoritarian. They're happy as long as they're in power and the govt is detaining the "right" people.

  • This also creates problems if step parents have equal rights to biological parents. Poisoning the well is real and I know someone who pays child support to their kid's step parent, after they divorced. Will this just create a culture of sugar mommas and daddies and whoever bullshits the best gets all the benefits?

I don't know the specifics of the law and I can't see the future but this looks messy.

  • Lots of mozzarella, and soft Mexican cheeses and things popular in the US like pepper jack. I'm sticking with hard and well-aged cheeses now. Cheese wasn't the only part of my diet that put me in the hospital. I started by cutting everything that could possibly be a problem. I've been testing putting some things back in. Fortunately I can still eat hot pepper sauces as long as I don't go crazy. I love me some spicy food!

  • I used to eat massive amounts of cheese daily, way above average even though I'm lactose intolerant. It literally put me in the hospital. For years I had said i could give up meat but I could never give up cheese. Something died in my soul when I made the decision to give up cheeses with lactose. But I still eat my share of Gouda :)

  • I hate all of them but many people seem to like number two, but that is decisively the worst. I literally just bought twelve forks from a discontinued line because I had a few of them and they are the best forks ever. There are few things better than a great fork.

  • Many other countries use them too, although the US does use a lot. It does concern me that China might be wanting to use this to accelerate war, seize Taiwan etc before there are alternate sources available.

  • Didn't China halt all exports of rare earth minerals to the whole world?

The minerals aren't actually rare, they're just in low concentrations and difficult to extract. It's just a matter of time before thet set up mining and precessing somewhere else. It won't be in the US though. It'll be somewhere with super cheap labor and no regulations or environmental protections. Which is why it was in China in the first place.

  • Not always. I usually shop right when they open because I often work 3rd shift. Sometimes they have half of the self checkouts closed and only one person there, and one register open and they're just not paying attention because it's always slow early in the morning. So by the time they notice people need help they have several people who need help. And almost everyone always needs help, those machines are an abomination and don't really work. I've had to get help three times in one checkout because once it hits a flag it locks up.

Unexpected item in bagging area. Ugh.
