This is a huge topic in the veterinary community right now. They have multi-hundreds of thousands in loans and are on income-based repayment plans that take 20 years or more to pay back. Many are being told that they will be moved to a 10-year fixed repayment at the next review cycle.

Imagine going to school for 12 years, having $250,000 in ONLY school debt (ignoring any house/car debt). You are on a plan to pay off your debt based on how much you can actually afford, which for some is around $500-$800/month. Now, a new president comes in and says your effort to be financially stable and work towards the future is dumb, so pay it back at $2500/mo instead. You don't need a car or mortgage or childcare, right?

Depends on how fancy your house is, but basically it's a very small room connected to a second entrance of your house to take off dirty shoes and wet coats before going into the clean area of the house. For most people it's a combo laundry room connected to their garage.

I'm going to assume she was denied promotion because she was insufferable to work with and that all her coworkers were sick of her shit.

I can draw a usefully realistic map of every city I've spent significant time in. I can also drive around a city as big as Los Angeles without GPS (though some of the fucking freeway exits in this town are fucking ass backwards).

So when I'm in a taxi this weekend in a different city (not an Uber, an actual licensed cab) and he can't even figure out where you want to go when showing him the map with the location.... wow. He never actually did figure out where we wanted to go, we just held the phone for him so he could follow the GPS directions to one of the more popular neighborhoods in the town he drives in professionally.

You are the one who is arguing that this sheriff, who has a full time job with a higher rank in the same office as before, should still be receiving disability.

I was on disability for a time and was not allowed to work at all while on it. Once I was able to work again, I was taken off disability.

So you think it's totally cool to have a person collect disability payments for years and years while working a full time job that pays even more than the job they are collecting disability from?

I get workman's comp and suing for injuries incurred from a job, but at some point it is ridiculous to pay someone a full salary to not do anything when they are CLEARLY capable of performing the same job they are being paid to not do.

The point of disability is that you are unable to do a job and need assistance to continue living. This person is a sheriff NOW. His disability was from when he was a lieutenant with the sheriff's office. So he is being paid because he can't be a lieutenant but is perfectly fine being a sheriff?

I very much disagree.

The reason business owners hire people who aren't citizens is because they are cheap labor. Not only are they taking advantage of people who have very little choice in who will hire them and need a job to feed their families, they are not creating jobs that pay a living wage for people who are citizens. If your business model requires slave labor to be successful, then you shouldn't be in business.

Instead of criminalizing the people just trying to feed their families, criminalize the people who are taking advantage of people in a tough circumstance. It's not difficult to show that you did your due diligence in trying to assess citizenship.

Yeah, it looks like there was a slight roll just before touching down that put all the weight on one set of wheels. The wheels just seemed to collapse. Maybe it was the lack of flare or a structural failure on the landing gear? It definitely didn't look like it flared at all.

I looked into it. They have deputy mayors for specific functions, like Health/Education/Finance/etc. Los Angeles has 3 deputy mayors, which was a surprise to me as someone who has lived here for 20 years. Also a surprise to me: one of our deputy mayors called in a fake bomb threat to City Hall 2 years ago. How did I not hear about that??

I'm not sure you read what that person wrote correctly.

Trump has already directed the removal of language saying Taiwan is NOT independent (pissing off the Chinese) and is trying to scale back the CHIPS Act (making us more dependent on Taiwan). Putting those two things together with this "deal" for Ukraine, it feels to me like he is setting us up for a Chinese invasion of Taiwan where he can make a similar "deal" with Taiwan where we protect them in exchange for 50% of their chip making profits.

I was unaware NYC had 4 deputy mayors. That seems like 3 too many??
