  • The issue is it takes too much effort to play vs normal gaming unless you are able to dedicate a room to it. For people in areas where housing costs are low enough that you can afford a big house, or for people who are single and don't have other people in the house to cater to, this might be fine. But for most people, a good VR session involves moving shit out of the way, strapping on a helmet, putting wrist straps on and figuring out whether you want to do that blind after putting the helmet on or trying to put the helmet on with things in your hands, then playing in a specific area so you don't kick your coffee table (and hope your dog doesn't walk in front of you while you are walking).

Contrast that to picking up a controller while sitting down.

If the awesome games were there to make the extra effort worth it, then fine. But there just aren't the great games yet. I have a VR system and haven't put it on in months because I just don't care enough. It has become a novelty.

  • Unfortunately, the infrastructure for the standard use case you talk about isn't pervasive enough. Most apartments don't have chargers at all, let alone one per apartment. You can drive by a Tesla or DC fast charge station at almost any time of day in a big city and see a line of cars waiting to use the small number of chargers. People are taking naps in their car in a bank parking lot while charging. Kudos to them for embracing the inconvenience of not charging at home to help the environment, but I never would have bought my 2 EVs if I didn't have charging at home.

  • Yeah, this doesn't make sense to me. Starlink needs a dish that has to be outside without trees covering it, so it isn't like they can place new routers around the building that receive Starlink and have wifi capability. They will still have to run a cable from the dish(es?) to new wireless routers. How is that ANY different from just running new wireless routers from their existing fiber?

  • The officers issue orders, and the officers mostly hate Trump. The enlisted people are far more pro-Trump than the people who issue orders. They take an oath to protect the people under their command AND an oath to protect the Constitution, and they take those oaths very seriously. They hate that Trump shits all over those people and shits all over the Constitution.

They will follow orders from Trump when there isn't much at stake or if they align with their mission of protecting the United States and its allies/interests. I think you would see mass resignations on the officer side of the military if they were commanded by Trump to attack Canada. They might not refuse to follow an order, but they might resign or force a reassignment to a post that is not involved with the attack on Canada.

  • IIRC from watching a documentary about this, there was a lot more evidence.

Also, if they concluded that bad medical care led to the deaths, and Letby was a care giver on each case, then that isn't really painting the picture they want to paint.

  • No. I just read whatever is on top of the stack of books waiting to be read, unless a new book in a series I'm already reading just came out, then I'll start that.

If there isn't a book that is screaming your name from the shelf, then you aren't going to miss out on some life changing moment. Books aren't instantaneous moments that you'll miss out on. Your experience might be different if you read a book when you are in your teens vs when you are in your 20s vs in your 40s, but if you read a book now vs in a few weeks, I think you'll be OK.

  • One of the Space Force bases doesn't have hot water for a long time because of a planned construction project that wouldn't have been a problem if so many people weren't forced to work there. Another Space Force Base has about half the parking spaces it needs because of the parking area taken over by a planned construction project that started just before this return to work order. This is going to last 3 years because a return to work order wasn't anticipated or planned.

  • The weird thing with this one is that America already has a thriving wine and sparkling wine industry. $ for $ I vastly prefer CA reds over French or Italian. Now, in the higher end I will switch to preferring French or Italian, but a $20 pinot from Central Coast is way better than a $20 "Burgundy" or "Tuscan Red." Getting into the $50 range it starts being pretty equal, and then in the $100+ range the European wines start dominating.

So a tariff won't really help the US at all, since we already have what he says is his intended purpose.

  • Didn't hurt the Republicans every time they threatened a shutdown when the Democrats were in power. And if the Dems think they can get some concessions from the R's by forcing the country to get hit, then it might be worth it to stop some crazy shit in the long run.

  • We were just having a similar discussion, though not about Enya. My position was if I had a billion dollars, you know what I would do? I'd recreate Hogwarts Castle. I'm not even a huge Harry Potter fan and hate what's-her-name, but how cool would it be to live in a beautiful movie set house the size of a small town?

  • Japanese whiskeys are great, but they can get expensive. Whiskeys made in blue states are likely to be more craft-oriented and also be expensive.

Most of those are in Napa/Sonoma/Paso, which are expensive wine areas. They mostly have $75/bottle bourbons.

Those are in Portland, and they are also quite expensive compared to Jack and Woodford.

Woodinville is from WA and is pretty good. A bit more expensive than your normal bourbons, but not crazy.

  • What I'm not seeing from this story is whether the farmers have tried paying a higher wage to attract workers who are not at risk of being deported. Are they paying slave wages and taking advantage of a population of people who are unable to get a less physically demanding job?

Another thing I'm not seeing is any mention of how these farmers voted in the latest election. Rural Pennsylvania isn't exactly a hotbed of liberal ideology. I wouldn't be surprised if the same people screamed about "illegals."

  • It sets up Russia for accusing Ukraine of breaking the cease fire, allowing Trump to end all sanctions on Russia, sanction Ukraine, end all support to Ukraine, and possibly aid Russia in their "counter-offensive."

It also allows Russia time and security to safely move their troops to more strategic locations instead of being bogged down in bad positions.

  • Rich people can actually make money on a crashing market, especially a crash that was EXTREMELY predictable by anyone who isn't sucking on Trump's dick. So this will just further increase the rich/poor gap.
