They're not saying general road safety is 20x better. They're comparing an automated car ONLY on surface streets with lights, intersections, pedestrians, dogs, left turns, etc... to a professional truck driver mostly on highway miles.

That's when vehicle to vehicle communication will come into play. When we can automate the driving and link the cars' comm systems together, it becomes a network management problem.

Why even yell at that point? If you are so afraid he might shoot someone, then stay behind cover and yell that police are present and to drop the gun. When you startle a person with a gun, there can be pretty predictable responses. If you aren't afraid he might shoot someone, then why instantly shoot 17 times without giving him time to comply?

Maybe he should learn from Joshua: the only way to win is to not play at all. Trump should just quit and ride off into the sunset... likely on a private plane filled with underage sex slaves.

This is a WILD interpretation of 31 U.S.C. 1352 by whomever wrote this report. 31 U.S.C. 1352 is about using federal funds to influence contracting, not lobbying.

Here is the text: (1) None of the funds appropriated by any Act may be expended by the recipient of a Federal contract, grant, loan, or cooperative agreement to pay any person for influencing or attempting to influence an officer or employee of any agency, a Member of Congress, an officer or employee of Congress, or an employee of a Member of Congress in connection with any Federal action described in paragraph (2) of this subsection.

(2) The prohibition in paragraph (1) of this subsection applies with respect to the following Federal actions:

(A) The awarding of any Federal contract.

(B) The making of any Federal grant.

Jesus, I had heard that Canadians were starting to refuse to travel to the US, even if only for a layover. This is WAY more of a drop than I expected. Good on them for standing up for a good cause.

It's a satellite based nav system. This would be a new development that is presumably ground based.

GPS and Galileo satellites are in MEO, not GEO. GEO is a very specific altitude to keep a satellite directly over the same spot on Earth at all times (synced to the spin of Earth). MEO, on the other hand, is a wide range of altitudes roughly half the altitude of GEO. GPS sits right around 9800 nautical miles, which is 11200 miles. That's still really far away, so your point stays the same. Galileo is in a similar orbit, I think around 200 miles lower but I can't remember. GLONASS is there, too. Beidou from China has birds in both MEO and GEO. QZSS from Japan uses one GEO bird and three birds in a highly inclined orbit at GEO altitude.

Your two points are good. I think a third point would be that this is a different RF spectrum, while GPS and Galileo are on roughly the same RF spectrum. Jamming GPS and Galileo at the same time isn't difficult. Jamming a very different RF spectrum at the same time is much harder.

While it was overly dramatic and questionably factual, it opened my eyes to how foreign governments are manipulated by the US to benefit corporations. I don't know how much it "changed" my views, but it definitely changed how I saw the world and how I interpreted specific news stories.

It was both. Industrialization cuts out a lot of need for human workers. Capitalism cuts out the needs of humans in the drive for profit.

I read Fountainhead and really enjoyed it. I started to think I might be interested in her philosophy. I had an older coworker when I was an intern who was VERY into Ayn Rand and Objectivism, and we were having conversations about the philosophy.

Then I read Atlas Shrugged. Holy shit did I hate it. That book made it quite clear how stupid and unrealistic her philosophy was, and also made me rethink my opinion of that coworker who was really into her.

I thought it was a terrible book, even regardless of her wild-ass philosophy. Her characters were flat, and their dialogue was not remotely realistic. The book was overly long and said the same thing a thousand different ways to hammer home her point. I similarly didn't enjoy Catch 22, since he made the same joke over and over again (kind of the point, I know, but I just didn't enjoy the repetition). I did enjoy Fountainhead, though. I thought it was a much better book.

Maybe you didn't read the reply properly, because the person you are replying was never trying to be defensive like you are. They were never being insulting like you are. They were never being willful like you are. They were never being condescending... like you DEFINITELY are. It's almost like you projected all of the traits of yourself onto their post. I wonder who that sounds like....

The reply was never trying to refute the statistics or the study. It was only saying they guessed that in the future the percentages will shift in a different direction and said why they thought that might happen. Yes, there might have been more narcissistic boomers in their 20s than narcissistic 20 year olds right now, but a certain percentage of boomers "aged out" of being narcissistic. If a much lower percentage of 20 year olds age out of it, then the ratio MIGHT tilt towards the younger generation if the gap is big enough. It's just a thought experiment. It isn't refuting anything or defending anything.

They didn't write up a counter point. They said they are guessing that in the future the ratio will move in another direction. They then said why they are guessing that might happen. They never in any way tried to refute the statistics or facts or anything the other person said.

The person who posted the statistics then misread the reply and put out an overly long, overly defensive, and insulting reply... talking about how being overly defensive and insulting is a boomer trait. The irony is delicious.

Who cares now? It's only 2.5 months in, and so much PERMANENT damage has already been done. Nobody will ever trust the US again. The only time his approval ratings will matter is if he tries to declare himself President or push through allowing him to run for a 3rd term.

His ratings could be 0% with every demographic, and the Republicans MIGHT vote to impeach him.... maybe. And maybe his ratings might matter a little in TWO YEARS during mid-term elections. But that is two more years of him looting and pillaging and destroying the country.

18-29 was 51/47 Harris. 30-44 was 50/47 Harris. 45-64 was 46/52 Trump. 65+ was 47/51 Trump.

So Gen X did vote Trump, but so did Boomers. Gen Y and Gen Z voted Harris.

I'm a military satellite professional with ties to cyber for my programs. China is WAY higher of a threat from a military standpoint. From cyber, it might be equal. I'll trust your word on that.
