  • Imagine the suspension of intellect it must take to admit that Russia is willing to pay you push the narrative you are already pushing, or are willing to push, and then considering yourself a victim for doing it.

You weren't the target, you were the tool.

  • Because Democrats want someone who will run the country and Republicans just want someone who will maintain their minority control. We are concerned for the country, they are scared for their very existence and self reflection itself is dangerous for their existence. Basically self reflection is necessary for what Democrats want to do, and it fatal for what Republicans want. So we do it, and Republicans avoid it at all costs. We get a Kamala who we hold to a high standard, they get a Trump who can punch them in the face and they'll still support him because of the party.

  • This is a really old message, but if you're still having the same question i could try to answer, but that kind of message is pretty context dependant. For that specific one, it sounds like your program is trying to access something outside your network,, like they have a website they need to access to check for updates or something.

  • A benign scan could just be looking for an ftp server to connect to or a repeater or relay server of some sort. There are plenty of open services people make available for free and the fact that you would consider it an attack it doesn't make it one.

At minimum you could be alerted to look for someone attempting to connect to your ftp server with a single basic anonymous authentication vs someone flooding that port with known malicious software attacks, and block the latter across your entire network and effectively ignore the former. Really it seems like you're advertising your lack of imagination in this context than a legitimate lack of possible uses for spoofing open ports.

  • Well, since you ask, it likely depends on whether they're humorously encouraging you to look at something from a different angle, or if they've just discovered a handful of situations that get a chuckle from people who only encounter it occasionally, them proceed to subject everyone to the same 'second-think' ad nauseum.

  • That's probably a majority of the point. Falsely report that some interesting ports are open and he'll spend time on them and potentially trigger alerts or blocks.

Fake open ports aren't something a normal user would bother with or understand, but with all the tools available in the nefarious side, it makes sense to have options that make their job harder if you're willing to use them.

  • At a guess, you might tell the difference between some benign scan and an attempt to actually take advantage of the port, perhaps to use as a trigger to automatically ban an ip address? or a way to divert malicious resources to an easy looking target so they are less available in other areas?

The difference between someone scanning for open ports and someone attacking a port they find open seems significant enough to at least track and watch for patterns... Whether that's useful for the majority of users or not is rarely why a feature is implemented.

  • Let's just hope that the votes he was pulling away from Trump were just because they needed somewhere to go and it was 'Not Trump' first, 'Not Biden' second, and 'Not Democrat' third.

Harris at least fits the first two qualifications, which is what Trump's campaign has been about for 3 years....'Biden Bad'... Unfortunately for his campaign, he's not the only one running who isn't Biden and he's doing a shit job of convincing people otherwise since he has spent practically 0 time signing any blame to someone as inconsequential as a Vice President at any point in any of those the years.

And why would he... doesn't make sense to dillute the blame when he knows there was no way Biden would ever willingly give up the chance to keep the power of the presidency in favor of anyone else.... He certainly couldn't imagine doing that himself.

  • Facts are tiny, but there are a lot of them. Theories are big but only useful the fewer of them there are. Grow oversimplifications, of course, but the more facts a theory can explain, the more successful the theory. Maybe that's is how they should be framed, theories are never proven, they are only successful or disproven.

  • I think that should be allowed, but then just have like an outright charge on things like water and roads and education. I mean it's already kind of like that for rich people, but let poor and middle class 'opt out' of government provided stuff and just take stuff a la carte....I mean it would probably have to be more expensive for each thing, but overall let people decide what to chip in towards

  • I don't think it's that, i think it's the part of about acting like biden being a bad choice is fairly comparing him to a alternative. It's like saying Biden is a car that might break down so don't buy it....but the car that's already broken down, had knives for seats and only plays white supremacy youtube stations on loop on the radio. I mean we can admit a lot of flaws on the democrat side before we have to actually start comparing it to the republican options.

  • These are nice for when you need to tighten something random and you have no idea what size it might be. They do not excel at being a dedicated tool for a larger job. Definitely a matter of preference, but if you find yourself being the go-to person for assembly, a dedicated tool of the correct size is like night and day. If you find yourself just needing something convenient that can jump from bed frame to electronics project and fit in your pocket, these are the way to go. Personally I'd have a hard time imagining not having both options in different tool boxes.
