  • Sooo...

I get the crazy trumper hate and stupidity 100% I wish everyone could see him for what he is and stop following blindly thinking he cares about anyone but himself.

But an 80yo shouldn't have to work or have had to work for the last 8 years. He should be collecting SS, and should not have to live in absolute squalor. But we (as a whole in America) don't care about mental health or old people, it's not profitable.

The loving trump stuff can be tied to him not being mentally sound but it shouldn't have anything to do with an 80yo getting money he likely paid into SS back out in retirement.

  • Oh, we're all in google here (because of me) except the two outcasts (even though I'm outnumbered)

We have 6, and about to have 12 chromecast audios that run speakers all through the house. All tv's have google TV dongles except the main tv that has Shield TV (still android) Google mini's in every room

You say "Pi" to mediate? What do you mean there? (Raspberry pi?). I run Pihole in our house for ads, trackers etc.

  • In this case, these are not TV's but small HDMI plug in devices. $30 device that I'd be surprised if they're selling at a loss https://store.google.com/us/product/chromecast_google_tv

And personally, If they are doing that, I want two versions, one I can pay the actual cost w/some profit for them, and no ads. The ads keep making them money long after they recoup any hw costs as they continue to profit off users. When I bought an amazon Kindle way back when, I chose the one without ads for the same reason. I'm ok paying for a product vs. being the product.

  • Ya, so... They didn't GIVE me the Google TV device, I had to buy it. Therefore they got their money from me for that hardware. I'm not using other 'free' google products that cost them money on that device so why would they be showing ads? What cost are the recouping?

For the record, I have not seen this and we do have a number of google TV's in our house. However our primary TV uses an Nvidia Shield.

  • Haha, I mean I get it... Giving away money to uncle sam sucks but I agree with your sentiment. They are coming out ahead, that house was an investment that is paying dividends. I am hoping to have that problem some day!

  • Garmin makes good watches, and the data capturing goes to Garmin connect without any subscription fee / pay wall to see all the data it tracks.

I've had a bunch of them (as a runner). I currently have a Fenix 6X partially because I was doing long runs and wanted the battery to last without worrying. I recently tried a pixel watch 2 for a few weeks and did really like the extra "smarts" but the battery life sucked.

  • My comment was about how in my opinion apnews did a pretty poor job with that story overall. I'm not a school administer so I have no desire to try to work out what appropriate high school punishments for various instances of breaking rules should be. I stand by my original comment on that subject.

"I am not going to comment on whether the punishment fit the crime, there’s not enough detail about that in the story."

Edit: I will say this, The consequences must not have been harsh enough to stop her from going into the bathroom and vaping. And if they weren't, how bad do you have to make the punishment before her, an apparently smart kid, stop breaking the zero tolerance rule?

  • That was part of the problem with the story. How many times had this person been caught? The story doesn't include that info. Kids push back, so the consequences need to be such that they are harsh enough to deter, without obviously ruining their lives. Seems that Ailiyah still got her scholarship, and that it mostly impacted her being able to participate in extracurricular activities in school

  • My wife and I went to Europe (from the US) in 2018 (Italy, and Spain) and one of the most shocking things of the whole trip was just how much people in Europe smoke. Like EVERYWHERE, while we were in Spain we got to see the final MotoGP race of the season, and it was like being taken back 25 years when smoking was allowed inside restaurants etc... Everyone around us was smoking and I really didn't care for that!

The rest of our trip was absolutely amazing!

  • So, if the point of this story is schools are spending money they received for COVID-19 on vape detectors/surveillance , then they should focus on that, and the misuse of those funds. That seems like a story that should have follow up.

If they're trying to make me feel bad because Aaliyah got in trouble for doing something the school has a zero tolerance policy for, that's probably not going to happen. By high school you should have a pretty good grasp on how rules work. The story seems to really focus on this kid being punished for doing something she was not supposed to be doing. I am not going to comment on whether the punishment fit the crime, there's not enough detail about that in the story.

I have a 13yo, and I do not want them picking up or being around smoking/vaping at all. I'm OK if the school has both a zero tolerance policy for vaping with progressively harsher consequences for 2nd, 3rd offenses. I'm quite OK if smoking/vaping is kept far away from school grounds.

  • My wife had one (Yeti), and it worked quite well so I bought one and carry it around quite often. I also happen to watch 'Project Farm' on YT and he JUST did a thing on tumblers. Yeti was actually kind of middle of the road compared to the others he tested.

Funny enough, my wife walked in while I was watching it and this is when I found out there was a big Stanley craze happening right now making them hard to get. I do not watch tik tok and I guess that's where it started. At any rate the Stanley ranks pretty high on actual function against the others he tested.

  • I think for union duties him being so hardline works. I think in a more formal political scene that would be more problematic regardless of which "side" he was on.

We need people that can and are willing to work together and solve problems. Not "my way or the highway" mentality

Of course, this is my opinion.
