  • Yeah you're right. "Could be gone forever" is probably more accurate. I imagine most banks would give you a bit of leeway, just like most CCs aren't going to hold you liable for the first $50 like they technically could.

But at the same time, that money is gone immediately from your account, so if a sizable amount gets debited it could put you in a pickle until/if they refund it.

  • OP also didn't specify which type of debt. Twice your annual salary in CC debt, ehhh not so great. Twice your annual salary in a mortgage + student loans + car loan actually sounds like a pretty typical situation, if not a bit frugal. That's a person making 100k with a 4yr degree from a public univeristy, living in a 150k house, and driving a usedToyota.

  • To add to this, if your debit card is used fraudulently, that money is gone from your bank account forever. If your credit card is used fraudulently, you are on the hook for maximum $50, and in my experience it has always been $0.

I have had fraudulent charges show up on a CC about once every 2-3 years. In each case, the worst hassle is waiting a few days for a new card to arrive. That alone is enough for me to never use a debit card unless absolutely necessary.

  • I think it's more that the opinion is poorly conveyed / thought out.

Empathetic thinking is something completely different than what OP is describing. In fact, it's almost the opposite.

Personally I come here for the well-argued but wholly blasphemous opinions, not hot takes or rants.

  • The big one for me is drag/drop, copy/paste, saving of emails and attachments between Outlook and the rest of Windows/Office is completely borked.

I have to keep both versions open at work to keep from going completely insane.

  • TBH, that's significantly better than I would have expected for photos of the stars taken on a phone.

FYI stars (and anything over a few hundred feet actually) is at an infinite distance as far as your phone's optics are concerned. So it's not a matter of focusing, it's a matter of trying to resolve what are effectively pinpoints of light on a black background while in your hand, where the minutest movement will smear them across the sensor.

Photographing the stars is not trivial, even with a real camera and a tripod.

  • Thanks for posting that. I find social interactions pretty draining as well, and default to email or chat whenever possible, but your post made it click in my head that even a quick video call with a new (or old!) colleague makes later communications feel so much easier.

  • They may not care, but reading people and meeting expectations of your colleagues is pretty much a bare minimum level of functioning for most professional positions.

I'm a massive introvert and would love to not have to rely on those social aspects of work, but they undeniably make me more effective at my job and make life easier in the long run. It's no different than physical exercise or any of the million other things in life that might be a bit unpleasant but are ultimately good for you.
