  • Glad I finished my first Dutch unit just to get the basics and am deleting the app today. It feels like a real condemnation of the state of modern AI that I don't trust a large language model with languages.

  • It always blows my mind that Pritzker seems to be consistently on the right side of history. Have we done it? Have we found the mythical 'good' billionaire? 'cuz he's done a pretty great job as governor of my state and I'll happily vote for him again if I get the chance.

  • I'd argue the exact opposite, because I see a whole lot of people who seem to think all we need to do is remove Trump and the American government will be A-okay. Until we recognize and start to deal with the rot at the core of the U.S. we're just going to keep doing this same ol song and dance again and again. Until people recognize that fascism is not a bug but a feature, we have no hope of moving beyond it to a better system of governance.

  • Just spitballing, but you could track it by number of hate crimes? There's the issue that the United States notoriously underreports hate crimes, so you might not be able to find accurate numbers, but I think that's the best hard statistic you could find for racism

  • It was definitely preventable, but to laud all of this to the actions of one man is foolish. The American empire has been in decay for longer than I have been alive. It's not really surprising that is now begun to crumble and collaps.

  • and if the Aliens like it,

I think this is the part I would become obsessed with; trying to figure out what the Aliens actually want. I'm confident that at our current technological level, we could automate a society that supports a million people. I'd start with accomplishing that, and then spend the rest of the time trying to develop a perfect piece of performance art including all million members to try and please the Aliens.

  • Tbh, I actually think this ends up being a win for Skyblivion. I think a lot of first-time Oblivion tryers were hoping for more dramatic changes, as opposed to basically unchanged Oblivion with a weird facelift running on top.

  • Honestly though, rejects all accepted scientifc logic and reason? Does something incredibly stupid and dangerous, just for money and clout? Nearly kills everyone around them in the process? Only bailed out through dumb luck, absolutely no talent to be found at all?

No wonder Trump loves Columbus, he was the first American!

  • I don't have much to add to your search, but I'm in the exact same situation almost down to the card and also looking for an upgrade. The only advice I have so far is to go for team Red, AMD seems to be so, so much better to use on Linux than Nvidia.

  • Will my ability to play games be significantly affected compared to Windows?

So far, my experience on this depends on your graphics card. If you're using AMD, you shouldn't be too significantly impacted. If you're using Nvidia, god help you. In my experience trying to get games running on Linux with an older Nvidia card, you'll have a lot more fun bashing your head into a wall until the wall breaks.

  • Honestly, it's about a similar standard of care. Doctors in the U.S. are too overworked to be helpful, most of my peers' experience with doctors is getting ignored and belittled by them. Add on the amount of time and money that an appt can cost, and it's not surprising that people are looking for an experience that at least gives them good vibes.

  • Sometimes I just wanna play games at home, not fight for several hours just to get NVVM compilation failed :( It's really cool that so much is working for people on Linux these days, but it doesn't seem to be working for people like me stuck with a Nvidia card

  • No, you're a human. All of us have generally done shitty things, especially when we were teenagers and were exceptionally shitty versions of ourselves. You're not "marked by sin" or whatever religious nonsense some people like to say, none of what you did then has to define your present or your future. If anything, feeling bad about the things you did in the past shows that you have grown up, learned some empathy, and become a better person.

  • Last Epoch, which recently had a major update. I've been flatly unable to get it running in two different operating systems now, and haven't even bothered to try tinkering with it for the last two days. It even mocks me with a Platinum rating on protondb...but all the reviews on Ubuntu are at least 9 months old and that was back when the game had a native Linux version. My biggest worry is that the latest patch has broken something for Ubuntu, but what's most likely is that my configs are just borked in a unique way that I'm too stupid to fix.
