Harris' plan was bad then, and this plan is bad now. They're both clearly attacking the problem from the wrong angle, and just trying to incentivize the creation of more workers to exploit.

Because Abrahamic religions are kinda the Big Three and you don't hear much about other religions. Hinduism has gods with female characteristics, a good majority of classical age religions feature female gods, lots of modern druids/neo-pagans/Wiccans revere an "Earthmother" or "Mother Nature" type deity. I'd even go so far as to say the Abrahamic religions are particularly weird for their lack of female representation.

I'm wondering if the people suggesting it for planetary travel have played Portal 2. It uh...it doesn't end too well when they try.

The issue I have is that there is an incredibly corrupt, absolutely vile, but completely legal explanation for the massive difference in down-ballot participation; Musk and other billionaires flooded social media platforms with heavy pro-Trump propoganda. Easily influenced people were pushed to vote for Trump, but given no directions for how to vote locally, so they didn't.

Should these votes be counted is another question entirely. I personally don't view it any differently than vote buying, as these voters are essentially agents fulfilling their orders, but there's nothing on the books that bars anyone from manipulating low-intelligence people from voting how they're told.

If you're living somewhere liberal; ehhh. It depends. Current administration are shitbags, and all it takes is one of those lil fucks thinking it'd be funny to report their teacher to the feds. If your classes are such that you don't think you'd have to worry about something like that, go for it. As someone who gets paid to talk to a lotta children, I don't really tell them anything about me, but I'm not a teacher and being kind to kids isn't in my job description.

I think you're so close here, you gotta look further at the overlap. The venn diagram of crypto bros and AI bros is a circle. What's happening is a constant cycle of out-of-touch business execs and fresh MBAs thinking they can print money using the hot new scientific breakthrough. Same as the Dot Com bubble, it's all just new snake oil for the salesmen.

The fact that this is constantly the response from libs being called out is honestly the reason I have given up. I've spent the last decade being politically active, trying to motivate Americans to vote in their own self-interest for things that will actually improve their lives, and I've received nothing but insults and assumptions from centrists who've never done a damn thing to prevent the collapse we're witnessing now.

So yeah, fuck it. My informed opinion after campaigning for third parties and leftists for years is that Americans deserve everything that is going to happen to us. You didn't want a democracy, and now you don't have one. Congrats!

I think you're looking at it from the wrong angle. The problem is that the moderate libs have consistently shut down third party and leftist options for the last few decades. Since the Democrats haven't had any competition, they have abandoned their constituency, and now work exclusively for corporate interests. By constantly voting for the "lesser evil", you have allowed them to blossom into an evil that the average American cannot distinguish from fascism.

I'm not expecting anyone to organize anything. At this point, I'm just pulling up a chair to watch the collapse. But good job insulting the Bernie Bros who tried to pull you out of this downward spiral, it's good to know that the center will punch left no matter what.

I think I'd have to use it for violence, like sending a war criminal off a large building, but you couldn't even really have fun with it. Everyone fantasizes about launching a billionaire straight into space, but you'd need multiple portals to get them into a situation where they're building momentum first.

Also, if there's no material emancipation grids, are the portals just there forever? The portal gun doesn't have an off switch or a way to deactivate existing portals.

I mean, Musk et al absolutely were meddling in the German election, there was a post last week examining a study that concluded far-right AFD friendly posts were getting boosted on TikTok and X prior to the election.

I feel like our standards and definitions of "free" elections have been utterly fucked in the social media age. I don't know if Musk actually hacked voting machines, and I doubt any fake votes were cast, but does it really make any difference? If someone is voting for AFD because they're trapped in a disinformation bubble on X, how much different is that from just buying votes? Musk is controlling that voter either way.

I'm not really sure what we're meant to do about it, but I think this is a crisis-level threat to Western civilization. If we can't figure out how to have elections free of interference, democracy is going to keep sliding over to fascism.

Germans managed to buy themselves time, but I'm still worried by AFD's gains. It's good to hear Merz is at least unwilling to form a coalition with AFD, but I don't know how long that's going to last since Merz is a piece of shit too.

A CDU/CSU + SPD coalition seems like peak neoliberalism though, so fascism is going to knock on Germany's door again. Hopefully those plans to ban AFD seriously materialize before then.

A lotta people are pointing to China as the inevitable winner of all of this, but your point about Europe using this lapse in U.S. soft power to make a move is salient. I'm a little bit worried about the rise of fascism in Europe though, doesn't NATO-skepticism go hand-in-hand with Euro-skepticism? It feels just as likely that "Europe going alone" ends with a lot of nations going toward isolationary policies.

A third party had no chance of coming to the rescue in 2024 because everyone has attacked third parties in the U.S. for at least the three decades I've been alive, and I'm pretty sure for another few decades before that.

Also, you're conveniently ignoring the economic conditions of the Weimar Republic that made the rise of Nazism in Germany an inevitability. Just like all the libs ignoring the economic conditions in the U.S. that led to the rise of Trumpism.

There's some interesting theories in this thread, but I want to bring up one that I don't see talked about much; American democracy has been so dysfunctional for so long, the average American citizen absolutely assumes they're being lied to on the campaign trail. Nobody ever believes a politician is going to accomplish even a quarter of the things they campaign on here. This is a big part of what made Trump so popular, with the line of thinking being "he's an outsider, so he'll be different." The problem then becomes one of cognitive dissonance. On the one hand, Trump being an outsider should be a reason to always take what he says at its face value. On the other, Trump is a politician now, and as established, politicians always lie on the campaign trail, so why would you expect him to keep his promises?

I'm not going to pretend to understand how the average American is able to do the mental gymnastics necessary to maintain these two contradictory ideals, but I think it's important to point out that a lot of his supporters grew up with zero faith in the democratic process ever helping them.

I think at this point, organization efforts should be focused on evacuation and relocation of people from red states to blue states. Let the people who voted for this shit face all the inevitable consequences, and get the people who will most be in danger when Balkanization happens somewhere safe. They're already killing trans people, it's just gonna get worse.
