  • I apologize compulsively at work and this thread is making me feel some type of way. Seems like everyone must hate me for it based on this thread I guess. It's like I'm in an unwinnable scenario of bothering people if I fuck up and bothering people if I apologize about it. So then what?

  • I mean things used to make more "sense" time and energy wise when you were able to have one parent work and one parent stay home. But it's just not really financially feasible nowadays. The people I know with kids are absolutely fucking drowning right now trying to both work and take care of the home life. I feel bad for them but there's not much I can do about it. It's not my family.

  • Maybe you might want to try out a different perspective. Because weirdly, being an adult can give you the freedom of being more childlike.

Think of it this way...as a child, no matter what kind of home life you had, abusive or not, you had to go to school for much of the day. As an adult, the same thing applies. Except now you'll be at work instead of school. So realistically, that part is actually the same if that makes sense. The time each takes out of your day is roughly equivocal.

Ok. So then where does that take us? The time spent during work or school is similar. So now the real differences are going to come outside of work/school.

As a kid, what happened outside of school? Your life was hell. You didn't get to play and do kid things the way a normal kid does.

Aa an adult, what happens outside of work? Believe it or not, you can do whatever the fuck you want.

    That's right.

Want ice cream for dinner? Fuck it, you're an an adult and can do what you want. Want to buy some toys and play with them? Fuck it, you're an adult and can do what you want. Want to climb a tree? Fuck it, you're an adult and can do what you want.

Use the now to live the childhood you didn't have. Difference is instead of spending your non play time at school, you'll just be at work instead, earning your own money to do whatever the fuck you want. :)

    Best of luck.

  • Anecdotally, I have seen a case of "stem cells tourism" where the patient traveled to a foreign country to get stem cells injected into their spine. Can't remember why they paid for this treatment. When they came back to their home country they started developing multiple spinal tumors due to the injections...causing significant morbidity. It honestly sounded like a horrifying case. Apparently this is not unheard of. I work in healthcare, but do not have a direct patient care facing role, so unfortunately I do not know what ended up happening to the patient.

  • Some card companies don't boost it automatically. I had the same credit card for like 8 years. Always paid it off in full each month and used the card very often as it is my primary card. I had an incredibly low credit limit of like $1k and was hoping when in the world they would ever increase it since it had been literal years and years of frequent usage and on time payments.

Yeah turns out I just had to ask and they increased it. Then only a few months later I asked for another increase and they increased it again to a much better number. So I mean it's not automatic at all companies, but they seem pretty open to raising it if you pay on time like you said.

  • I saw something similar on my way to work. Some pedestrian was trying to jaywalk across a busy, high speed road. A car stopped in the middle of the road to "be polite" and help them cross. What the car and pedestrian couldn't see was that an additional car in the next lane was going very fast and did not have visibility of the pedestrian. Their view of the pedestrian was blocked by the stopped car. And the pedestrian's view of the fast moving car was also blocked by their position at the stopped car.

The pedestrian crossed the whole way of the road, but came maybe a foot away from being hit by the fast car. I was afraid I was about to watch someone die.

Don't stop for people at odd places in the road unless it's an emergency. Sometimes "being polite" for someone is actually dangerous.

Edit: I will say that there is still partial fault with ALL parties involved. If you are driving the speed limit and see a car suddenly stopped ahead in the road, slow down. You don't know why they are stopped and there might be something in the road. But both the pedestrian and the stopped car should have done things differently.

  • I mean...I'm old enough and have tried on and off for years at this point that that advice isn't particularly helpful. Maybe if I was in my teens or twenties, sure. But people say things like "oh you're just a late bloomer" or "oh you'll just figure it out, it comes naturally" have never been all that helpful to me.

  • Goddamn I wish I could. People describe it as pleasurable and then relaxing. But I've never been able to do it. It's like either the nerve endings aren't hooked up right or there is some sort of brain defect, but I lack the ability for pleasure there, myself.

    Sorry, I'm not the OP.

  • So far I've tried Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Pop OS. Although I only briefly tried Pop OS. Didn't stick around long enough to see if it would have issues as well. There were other issues with that one that I can't quite remember...I think it was that often the OS would decide not to boot. Something about a weird compatibility issue with the BIOS or something.

  • The basic mouse features work, stupid. It's the gesture button/features that don't work, stupid. No one has come up with good support for anything other than basic mouse features on Linux, stupid.
