  • Is there ever enough money for companies? The game will sell well and most definitely turn a profit if they released it as just the base game with online option but they still manage to potentially milk every penny available before the game has even released. I know it’s rockstar and they are held to a different standard than other companies for some reason.

    • They make good games, no doubt there. Red dead 2 and gta 5 had an amazing open world.
    • They release horrible content for their games online content because it’s a money printer, even though it makes the game way less enjoyable (imo). I usually never play online for this reason, I remember I loaded up gta 5 online and was laser gunned by a guy on a flying bike. I respawned and shot him with a revolver and he spent the remainder of the game hunting me down, which was pretty funny, but wtf kind of content is that?! Fricking Flying bikes with fricking laser beams.
    • They rerelease the same game and repeat the process ad infinitum.
  • I love fluid movement. Doing things in a state machine is usually the way to go in 2d platformers, which is what I mainly make. I like when your character can move around without issue, so double jump, sliding, rolling, attacking etc.

  • They do track a lot, for no real good reason either. Most of the cctv systems you see are blurry, especially at distance, storage of high quality video takes a lot of space and money I guess. It’s a crime deterrent at best but lately most criminals don’t really give a damn, you see wannabe gangsters riding around on bicycles or scooters with balaclavas on, so the real criminals can blend right in with the wannabes. Police presence only seems to exist when football is being played also. This joke of a country could do with a reset button, probably been that way for a long time.

  • I think I got the first iPhone 3G. Then I moved to android and my last android phone was google pixel 3. Changed to iPhone 13 and been with that ever since. Similar tech history for sure.

  • I appreciate your response. I think you are better at expressing some of the things that brought me down this avenue of thought, I’m working on getting better at putting my thoughts into words though. I believe there must be some sort of balance between nomadic tribe member and modern man, yet we may have gone past the tipping point somewhere in the past. Now menial work is the bigger part of life whereas before, essential work was the bigger part (hunting for meat or gathering berries).

  • It’s fine. Downvotes mean nothing really, it’s just a variable stored on a web server somewhere. I’m happy that at least someone engaged in good faith though. I think I romanticise a simpler living but not because it would make me happier, I just imagine it would. I have just read “earth abides” by George Stewart and the main character goes through the motions of trying to restart civilisation after a disease wipes out humanity. It just set me off down a path of similar thinking.

  • I am assuming, of course. I don’t have any proof to back what I said, it was a showerthought. Isn’t the purpose of a showerthought post to share it with other people? I’m open to accepting new viewpoints and hearing others, I think the post was downvoted anyway so it was probably not a great pov but I accept the naturalistic fallacy as the right answer, you win!!

  • Compared to our ancestors I guess. The hunter gatherer tribes probably had more satisfaction in life that didn’t rely on systems of finance such as amassing wealth and investing in cryptocurrencies. Granted they probably starved to death a lot more, but I imagine they led more fulfilling lives overall and had a greater sense of community.
