  • That's not how that unit works. American shoe sizes are based on the size of a barleycorn! It's not weird and confusing or a pointless, arbitrary tradition that should have been replaced years ago or anything!

  • I think the important part of any kind of mass action is the mass part. We need to get millions, not thousands, behind it. And we could. There are enough people sympathetic to the cause, we just aren't as organized as we should be. And that's by design of the state and capital

  • Read through the comments because I just assumed this was some sizing scale I wasn't familiar with, but nope. US size 3! That's wild. I'm 6'3, size 13 wide. I never really got to wear kids shoes, so I was always jealous of the other kids who had wheelies and stuff.

Dude, for me, get a pair of wheelies. Live my dream for a day, alright?

Also, you mention your hands are also small. Does that cause any issues for you? Youve answered a million questions about your feet, but I'm curious if your smaller hands cause you pain when carrying things, do they make it harder to type? Any advantages? Are Pringles cans much more enjoyable for you?

  • Yeah, I know. It's terrible. There's another lemming around here I've spoken to that lives in Erwin.

I'd actually spoken to them about this, but then got distracted and didn't do it. We should make a community for NET and surrounding.

  • Well, there are no consequence free actions in any kind of scenario such as this. Lose your job for a general strike. Lose your utilities for a bill paying strike. Lose your job and you can't pay your utilities. Lose your utilities and you can't shower and will lose your job. Either way you're fucked. The only solution is to make sure you have enough people willing to join to make it impossible, or as close to impossible as possible, to ignore your demands.

  • Not taking a side on this. Instead asking a question and hoping for someone to explain

Those who do not support the idea of this kind of strike, do you support the idea of a general strike? A collection work-stoppage? If so, what is the fundamental difference? I have my opinions, but I really want to know yours.

Also, I fucking love mid-sentence exclamation points. It makes me happy every time I see it.

  • I'm running Bazzite right now, because I wanted to test it out, but normally I run Silverblue. When I first went to Linux years ago it was all Ubuntu, so I got used to GNOME and unity. Since then, I've never really been able to get into KDE. It feels too windowsy to me, and I fell in love with the quick keyboard controls and the smoothness on gnome. I fully get why someone might not like it, but for me it's a near perfect fit.

That's honestly the best thing about Linux. With windows or Mac you're stuck with how they want things to function. I love being able to change my DE, even if I never do it

  • Dammit, beat me to it haha

  • I used to live in Kingsport and Erwin! Up near Knox now.

  • My computer isn't good enough for gaming, but I use the steam deck for that. I'm accidently 100% Linux (well, and android, which doesn't really count). Lol. But, man, I was nervous about making the switch to completely Linux. The only time I'd done that before was back in like 09 when I had this shitty Acer laptop that I swapped to Ubuntu because it simply would not run windows. That wasn't a great experience, but things weren't as polished then, plus it was the world's worst laptop. Now I feel like I've upgraded to something that should cost 5 times the price. Like, it feels like I should be embarrassed by how good it is, like it was a splurge or an irresponsible financial decision. And it's free!

  • Not an app, but a whole ass OS.

Fedora. Switched to Linux full time over a year ago, after years and years and years (like... 06/07?) of dabbling. It blows my mind how polished and wonderful it is to use. It's completely everything I need, and it always blows my mind that it's fucking free

  • Aww. Ellie brought us a lot of joy. Endless, until the end. Sweetest baby. She would love that you were touched by that haha

  • I had a dog named Ellie. She had this little whimper moan thing she would do when she wanted something, and you had to go through the The List™ to determine what it was.

    "Is her hungry?"

"Does her want a to-to" (toy)

    Et cetera.

She wouldn't stop her whimper until you said the right item.

One time I had exhausted The List™ and was just trying random things because the whimpering was getting a little old at this point and I was desperate. So I asked "do you wanna go see the kitty balls?"

The kitty balls we a collection of stray cats at a Walmart we lived near nearly a decade prior. She had not been to see the kitty balls in at least 8 years.

She lost her fucking mind. Jumping up and down (not an easy task on an old girl with messed up legs from getting hit by a car), barking, spinning around. I loaded her up in the car and drove two hours so she could stare out the window at stray cats in the back corner of a Walmart parking lot.

I miss her a lot. And apparently, she missed the kitty balls

  • I'm really excited for it. I might actually be able to get my family off Whatsapp because of fuckerberg, but I can't get them to move twice. I'm debating pushing signal now, or waiting it out for sup

  • For a few years as a kid I lived in Black Mountain, but I barely remember it. I love Asheville for visiting, I don't really know what it's like to live there. The whole reason I'm in Tennessee is because it got too expensive in Virginia Beach. I can't imagine it's much better in Asheville.

And yeah, anarchist worker cooperative. They're amazing.

  • I'm not suggesting the rest of Canada would lay down and take it, just that the image in my head of Quebecoise is one of salt of the earth and die on that hill type. Like, Canadians are Not American™, and Quebecoise are Not Any Of You Fuckers™

  • They'll still only have 2 additional liberal senators.
