  • Don't sleep on the VA home loan. Lots of Americans are in the position to afford the month-to-month costs of a house, just can't afford the down payment get approved on the mortgage. VA home loan is means you only have to put like... $2-4k down, instead of $30k.

  • That's what I keep saying. I keep getting told I'm wrong though, that Lemmy needs to be easier to join, and hit critical mass and become the reddit killer because that's the only way we can exist.

Like, no thank you. I'm happy with Lemmy NOW, I don't need it to keep growing!

  • Right? It's a basic expectation that you have a phone number for everything. Work, doctor, etc. But we still treat it like having a phone is a luxury, for entertainment and convenience. Buy it yourself and figure it out yourself!

Hell, even restaurants are more and more replacing menus with QR codes

  • Hi I grew up in rural Kentucky, currently live in rural Indiana. The flyers of this flag hate gays and blacks, unilaterally.

Think for a second. Why, if you didn't want to project the idea that you proudly hate gays and blacks, would you fly this flag? The association is too deep. You can't fly this flag without very intentionally telling all the black and gay people around you that you hate them, even if "that's not what it means to you"

No, everybody flying this flag knows that, they don't care. They're cool with the message, they support the message. They just know it's not a great argument for the media 😉

  • That's how I feel right now. I don't need the Fediverse to replace reddit and Twitter, I want it to be a refuge from the commercialized crap! The people who can't be bothered to figure out Lemmy or Mastodon can stay right where they are!

  • It took me a while. Once I was in shape, didn't get horribly sore, could hit impressive PR's, and saw undeniable results. That's when I switched from "ugh gotta go to the gym" to "hell yes time to tear it up at the gym"

I think seeing the massive pattern of progress without dealing with the soreness is what I need to enjoy it.

  • I'm taking this opportunity to vent. I just got back from a year long deployment from a snowy, mountainous region. I'm geared for cold, used to the cold. Even at the hieght of summer there, it was like ... 70°F. They decided to demobilize us in El Paso, TX!!! It's murderously hot here every day, and our barracks don't have AC!!! So after walking around all day in a head to toe uniform in Texas desert heat, I don't even get the luxury of feeling cold, crisp air 😭😭😭

  • Regardless of how many hours a billionaire works, their labor is not worth the millions they make. That money comes from the surplus of value all their employees are making by actually working.

  • Seems most gyms do ban filming, just don't enforce it at all. Either way, it's always so annoying and egomaniacal when people go to public gyms for their Instagram. Build a home gym, people! Leave others out of your ego-stoking!

  • I agree, at least with Google you get maps, timeline, a password manager, photos, drive, an entire suite of Microsoft office-like software, streamlined 2FA on my pixel phone (just pops up on screen, no text or email needs sending), etc. If I have to strike a deal with a devil, I may as well choose the useful devil.

  • I fit none of your 3 categories! But I would say with the slightly less convenient joining process compared to most social media, the Fediverse is going to have to built up by people willing to take that burden, at least at first
