  • Was this a recent windows 11 version, from Microsoft directly? And what version of 11 (Home, Pro, etc) And what region?

The OOBE changes based on a lot of factors, but generally speaking, most users will encounter the forced account creation screen.

You can get around it by typing in "no@thanks.com" or some other bullshit. Or use the "Domain join instead" option, and then just...don't join it to a domain.

  • It's an long-term decision meant to kill modding. Having to seek a cracked version for modding isn't a problem for some users, but it's an imposing thing for users on average. It makes it less likely that your average user will attempt to engage with mods, which reduces the audience for mods, and that in turn makes mod developers less likely to develop them.

It's about strangling the life out of modding communities slowly.

  • People keep pointing this out like it's some kind of misinformation.

The Ubisoft executive is saying gamers need to get comfortable not owning their games before subscription services will take off.

The Ubisoft executive would also very much like subscription services to take off.

QED the Ubisoft executive is saying "I'd really like gamers to get used to idea of not owning their games so our subscription service can take off".

It comes back to the same thing: Ubisoft is saying aloud what they want the future of gaming to be.

And please don't tell me you're giving them the benefit of the doubt, here.

The problem is people apparently haven't figured out yet how to read what the CEO of a for-profit company means when they say shit publicly about their services. Learn to read between the lines.

  • You mean if they were stupid enough to try nominating any of the candidates Biden beat 4 years ago? Stupid enough to gamble on a new candidate, ignoring the fact Biden already beat Trump once? Stupid enough to ignore the fact the fact that the incumbent president more often than not wins reelection?

You're right, democracy is on the line, now's the best time to fucking gamble it away.

  • Also, I genuinely don't think most Americans care all that much to the degree it would affect their support of Biden.

I'm struggling to think of anyone I know who is so upset about Israel they would consider throwing the country to Trump, and I know a lot of people that have very strong opinions on Israel.

It just doesn't track. If you're against Israel's actions, you're probably also not keen on fascism, racism, and authoritarianism...so logically, you're not keen on letting Trump win.

  • How does Biden's age enter into this at all? That's what the vice president is for. It doesn't in any way equate to what happened with RGB.

Moreover, this is specifically about conservative justices, put in place through stolen judicial nominations, fucking the court system up.

And you decided to take that chance to whine about liberals?

  • They could even run under their own VPN and hook up the ads on their side... Ugh...

I've always wondered why Google doesn't provide that to its ad clients. Companies send their traffic to Google, Google puts the ads in, mixes it all up in one pot, sends it to the user in a way DNS filtering can't block without also blocking the content.

  • (Plex, etc)

Just get started on the move to Jellyfin now.

Seriously, people, use some pattern recognition here. Plex is already on its way down the enshitification pipeline, you'll be sick of it in a couple years too, just like Roku. Why wait?

  • Nvidia SHIELD is still ok, because it's Android TV, and you can install custom launchers on Android. Therefore no ads on your home screen.

Granted, Nvidia is letting the SHIELD line twist in the wind, and the most recent model is from 2019, but it's not outmoded just yet. I'll still be using mine for a number of years.

  • I mean...it hasn't, though?

RES still works just fine. Why would I stop recommending something that works?

What a bizarre thing to suggest. Don't use software that's in maintenance mode? The whole point of maintenance mode is so it keeps working so people can keep using it.

I'll stop recommending it when it breaks.

  • I don't know, old.reddit feels like it probably serves some internal purposes, and it's a safe fallback for when they inevitably release buggy shit on the new site.

old.reddit will probably be broken or maybe even restricted more and more as time goes by (it already has been) but I don't see them killing it entirely.
