We could more or less camouflage it under some kind of hardcore, daring and unflinching vibe. Show empathy and tolerance, but make it look like we're a fearless Sean Penn and couldn't give less of a fuck.
He does have the looks, huh? Too many people lately prefer to believe whatever requires the least effort from them. It goes something like: "Hey, that person's being openly sexist!" - "Hold on, they can't be sexist. Their mother is a woman!" - "Oh, thank heavens! For a moment there I was about to get really mad at them. I could've done something awful like blocking them on social media!"
Worse. He's a nazi scumbag that poses as a neurodivergent victim in need of therapy and tolerance whenever his hate speech backfires. He's also been caught redhanded using fake accounts to hound and harass people he dislikes. He's not related to tech in any way and isn't an expert in any field. Just your average toxic streamer making as much noise as he can.
Had a gamedev from a respected studio tell me that same rumour about Steam pushing exclusivities. All it takes is a little digging to find out that's false. Some people were upset when Steam was installed with Valve's own games as a launcher, and later more and more devs launched their games on Steam as a store because they wanted to. The alternative, Games For Windows Live, was lame and unstable. It was just the a smart choice for those that didn't want to make their own launcher.
Also, don't feed that other troll who's been posting nonsense everywhere. 🤣
And yeah, even if some good came from milking tons of cash from spoiled kids (I was glad for Oddworld Inhabitants to name one), as a consumer it's best to just delete your EGS account. If you got a game there for free that you wish to keep just copy its files elsewhere ASAP before deleting your account. Epic Games is known to have randomly deleted games from accounts because of server issues and their customer support will reject complaints about this by default, so getting attached to it's library is not a good idea.
Oh! One more thing. Epic Online Services. If it's optional in a game just disable it. You'll have less connection issues and in some games you just won't be able to play online at all if you don't disable that crap. Same goes for Epic's Easy Anti-Cheat, some mods let you disable that in a few games and doing so fixes some stutters it causes (night and day difference in Elden Ring). You're welcome. 🫶
The point, I believe, wasn't about spam but likely got derailed. It was probably about the phone number requirement being unnecessary. I'll just add that even if it is, it's a measure geared towards common users that often need to recover access to their accounts through means they're already familiar with, as is a verification SMS. It's not the safest nor the most private, but it's easier to deal with for most people. Whoever wants something that doesn't depend on a SIM or eSIM should try Briar and SimpleX. None of these will be a perfect solution for every single person though.
If it wasn't for "piracy" (volunteers lovingly preserving and modding their games and consoles and sharing their work for free) most people would've left and forgotten about Nintendo years ago. Their products would have been remembered just like those old, abandoned songs you never hear on any streaming service anymore, then sometimes think about and never bother to find because "it's so X0's" anyway.
Most of these companies owe modders and "pirates" the fact that they're so happily earning so much in this golden era of remasters and remakes.
That's a huge oversimplification. UX design and a careful selection of settings and features, for instance, have a big role in that regard. It's not what you prohibit but what you incentivize too.
I'd make backups of my purchases and share them with love for preservation and promotion of their authors hard work. "Piracy" was already shown to increase sales, not reduce them. If you really want to do something against an artist you no longer align with, dont consume their products. Don't purchase, don't download and don't share their stuff. Just look around for other artists you do align with, get hooked to their art and support them instead.
None. I dislike some actors, but so many other people pour part of themselves into these things and influence each other when developing them that it's impossible for me to not have at least some curiosity.
Mastodon user here since 2017. Sure, Bluesky requires less learning for those who come from other centralized platforms and nobody has to deal with fediblock drama over there. Some may also point to Bluesky's users being less tech-savvy and less prone to dogpiling on tech companies for their poor decisions, which I don't believe is completely true.
Something I do love about Mastodon though is I don't need any mods or admins to make decisions for me. I can calmly stay in an instance I trust and filter everything, every single small bit, to fit my own criteria. I get others think this is bad moderation and wish to depend on third parties to answer their reports, clean the servers and "do justice" but I prefer to make those decisions myself and let others make theirs.
I'm guessing the double meaning flew right over, hence the incomplete table mentioning Tamara's site from Oregon, USA.
The thing is, I'll need further research from other countries to consider trusting these findings, even if I'm already used to being overly cautious when purchasing hygiene products.
Good stuff! 👌
