  • Repeatedly.

I worked in retail only very briefly in the 80s and never had any major issues. I consider myself very lucky for that.

Even before covid, people seemed to be treating retail staff as some kind of lower life form far worse than I remember, but it's absolutely gone insane since.

  • Granted. I'm one of the lucky such gen X'ers whose parents were prescient and wealthy enough in the early 80s to get me a computer (Apple ][). As such, I'm mystified dealing with people much younger than me who are oddly proud of being technically illiterate... though to be fair it's been a lot of users that I supported during my days as an IT drone, and many of those were real estate bros. Ugh.

  • Can I borrow some of that crow? I was CERTAIN that despite his obvious issues and steadfast refusal to even address them, that Biden stepping out of the race would be the death knell for the US.

Yet here we are and I feel HOPE for the first time in a long time. Kamala feels like she'll be more than just a gatekeeper against fascism in the short term. I'm still nervous because... politicians are still politicians. But her record has been almost overwhelmingly good, even saying back to her time as AG of California.

  • I damn well hope so. As an elderly old man, I'm exhausted seeing technically illiterate and wildly socially backwards old men in charge of most parts of our political apparatus.

Time for people who know the internet isn't made of fucking tubes. Or that climate change is on top of us, in the process of burning/melting those things we need in order to live.

  • You mean the birthplace of the labor movement where the US government used artillery on stinking miners?

The current government sucks, but the history has some truly glorious and revolutionary moments.

  • I'm older but in the same boat. Unless those younger people are part of proud technological illiterati, which really pisses me off for some reason. Probably those 30 years of being an IT drone...

  • I'm lucky to have both.

The pain gets worse every year, but I've been dealing with it for closing in on 50 years so... meh I'm mostly used to it.

The tinnitus has a similar timeframe but seems to be getting worse MUCH faster. And is so much more distracting and ruinous to quality of life.

  • When I was doing the cliche sourdough deep dive during the height of covid lockdown, I really enjoyed Joshua Weissman's videos about it. He was a little silly and very informative.

Everything I've seen in the past couple years have been off putting. He tries WAY too hard to be 'funny' and it just comes off as smarmy.
