It's really interesting because these kind of "Kids are leaving the farm!" stories go back basically to the industrial revolution. I imagine eventually it'll be the case that most american farms are either purely industrial operations ran by corporations or "hobby farms" ran by rich people unconcerned with profit.

I dunno, their apparently gonna hit that 11 year old down in florida with a felony (though it is a weird felony, per https://www.reuters.com/world/us/florida-11-year-old-charged-kidnapping-hoax-call-sheriff-says-2023-07-27/ ):

The girl, whom Reuters is not identifying because of her age, faces a felony charge of making a false police report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner and a misdemeanor charge for misusing 911 services.

They also nailed Sheri Papini - 18 months in prison + 300K in fines.

The authorities truly do not like it when you fake a kidnapping.

She'll soon discover that being the Mayor is not actually that powerful or useful of a position to effect change from. It's a very limited position.

Will be interesting to see if his career rebounds after this or what.

I am 100% not surprised this would go down in Missouri.

I gotta think that part of the problem is even finding someone who would want to be a CPS worker in the first place, considering the kind of work it is and the kind of situations they deal with.

Put another way, It's like how prison guards tend to be of low quality - no one decent wants the job.

This general area of Oklahoma has been absolutely insane lately - 4 guys got murdered and chopped up in Okmulgee, there was the Henryetta 7-person murder-suicide, and now this, all within about an hour of each other.

I have no idea why CNN would do a news story on what amounts to a marketing gimmick from a website.

I remember that case, really tragic. People are absolutely stupid and will believe absolutely anything so long as it confirms their biases even a little bit.

Email marketing campaigns? Social media captions? Branded blogs? You'd think she'd be happy to be free of it.

I imagine the prestige of being able to tell people she was a "professional writer" was worth something to her mentally, but 'cmon...she was a marketing droid. She's just been replaced by another marketing droid.

In 20 years, they'll be writing about human trafficking the way we write about the satanic panic today. These weird hysterias have become absolutely emblematic of post WW2 american culture.
