After winning the Nobel peace prize, Obama dropped an average of 30k bombs / year (80 per day) during his presidency, mostly on Muslim countries, 2, 3. In 2016 alone, dropped 26,171 bombs in the Middle East and North Africa, up 3000 from the previous year. The countries bombed include Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, and Somalia.

Sweet arc. Reminds me of the story Parenti tells about ppl in the soviet bloc hoping that with the fall of the USSR, that they would gain the consumer cornucopia of the west, but get to keep all the social services, job security, and quality of life they had gained through socialism (they didn't gain the first, and lost the 2nd).

This comrade got to see first hand the US's horrible inequality and poverty, and that the chinese marxists were correct.

Its incredibly depressing talking to western liberals about politics. They can't even imagine that countries actually exist where the goverment isn't trying to kill them at all times.

What's even worse, is that when looking at any societal problem, the first place they look is the how the US half-tries and fails to solve a problem. How the US does anything, whether it be from health care, to law, to caring for the environment, should be the case study in what not to do. It's a rare person who looks at how any non-western country tackles problems.

The lemmy-ui env vars look wrong to me.

Its sad that all the same talking points are coming up in the MSM as did in the war on Iraq: "spreading democracy to an authoritarian regime", "toppling crazy dictators", "protect our allies in the ME". He spells out the real motivation in the end of the video: "The spice must flow..."

On the question of whether the armed struggle is the only path to liberation, I would answer that at least in the case of our country, we have no other path. Revolutionaries didn't choose armed struggle as the best path. Its the path the oppressors imposed on the people. So people only have two choices: To suffer, or to fight.

Yes, clients build their own UIs and decide how to present things.

I’m starting to get annoyed by seeing the same post 4 or 5 times in a row. I sort by New and since the posting happens concurrently, they just spam my feed with a page of identical posts.

lemmy-ui has a front page de-duplicator that combines cross-posted links (preferring the first one, but showing the others in a single text line) so you don't see them multiple times in the feed. Any other front end could add this, the code freely available for anyone to use.

so it would be necessary to aggregation crosspost comments, interleaving them under the single, unique, unfiltered post.

lemmy's GetPostResponse contains a list of crossposts, and it's up to UI's if they want to try to combine comments from those (by calling getcomments), in whatever way they'd like. In lemmy-ui we've chosen to link the posts at the top rather than combine comment threads.

One is that Palestinians are a semitic peoples, while the settlers are nearly all euro-amerikkkan origin. So even by Israel's old testament blood quantum calculus, they have much less claim to the land than the indigenous peoples do.
