  • As any tool, it's as great as its user. I think younger generations are probably more eager to explore and expand, but it's ok to be suspicious when used incorrectly.

AI is great when used for some specific applications, but I had a discussion last week with someone asking chatgpt about immigration advice... Ehh no thanks, I rather talk to an actual expert.

  • I mean, Dylan is an amazing lyricist and musician. But the technical prowess of his voice is known to be average at best, this is a common opinion even among musicians.

Dylan changed the game, but there's nothing wrong with acknowledging there are much better singers (from the technical point of view): Mike Patton, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Jeff Buckley.

No need to call someone dumb for a simple opinion, especially in something this subjective.

  • Like or not, it's a de facto standard. Good luck trying to convince your colleagues to change their workflow.

I love Linux, but I would never recommend using Microsoft Office on Linux especially if you work in a collaborative environment. Saying that Linux can run Microsoft office without any issue is a blatant lie. I run virtual machines basically so I can run Microsoft Office, but I don't think everyone wants to go though that much hassle.

  • That's still much better though. Lots of people die from lung cancer and other lung related illnesses due to pollution in cities. Also, if emissions are concentrated somewhere else it's more economical to treat them, instead of being spread out in an urban area.

This whole crap that something has to be 100% perfect to be a proper solution has to end. I'm against the use of cars, but let's be seriously, they will never go away.

  • It's an option, but if "none" wins then there's no shared knowledge of anything. The question really is, do you prefer to cause genocide but have new tech, or keep old tech with no genocide.

  • I don't think it's immoral, but who in their right mind takes Elon seriously? Would you really accept 1 billion dollar from a known attention-seeker scammer, if you tattoo your forehead? No thanks.

If this were coming from Jeff, or even a drug lord, I would probably be ok with it, as long as they are serious and without childish conditions.

  • Answers like this is why people stay out of Linux, you want to get in and the first thing they say is "learn to ask a question!!!"

If you couldn't tell OP was a beginner from the second question, then you are not good at understanding questions.

  • I mean if you live in a country controlled by a terrorist group that kills anyone who is not their side, and someone goes to your door and asks if you support them... What would you say?

It's easy to dismiss this issue by thinking they have the same freedom of speech as we do in the west, and they can have political opinions without any repercussion.

Same can be said about north Korea.

  • People choose policies that might be beneficial in the short term, but very harmful on the long way. For example, restricting immigration might have a favourable short term impact on wages, but in the long term it will stagnate the economy and pensions schemes, and make people even more poor.

So... People who are hungry will vote for whatever brings food to their table today, so they don't really have a choice, because those policies or politicians are not actually on their side, they are just benefiting from the misery of others.

  • I understand, but my point is why people are being so judgmental and prejudice about it? Maybe that's her actual working laptop, I've seen companies indulging their best workers with stuff like that.

Even if it's an odd choice to bring to court, it's still just a laptop, it's not like she decided to go to court in bermudas.

  • Well do you know if that lady bought it only for use in court?

Jesus, people drawing conclusions from a still image. It could have been a gift? Maybe it's not even her laptop? Maybe she has so much money that she wanted it for the rgb? Maybe she does video editing as a hobbie? Maybe she uses it for traveling for gaming and work, because NOONE brings one laptop for gaming and one for work when travelling.

Tell me more about what she does after work is over, you seem to know...

  • Lots of people use their "gaming" laptops as working stations. I barely use mine for playing, but I like to have a big screen with full keyboard and a nice GPU for my work, and something I can take with me if needed, for example for a long work trip. I also have a smaller laptop for things on the go.

  • Yeah, all businesses that need to run proprietary software that only exists on windows.

Good luck convincing your manager to use crossover/wine for your XRD machine.

People who think people using windows do it voluntarily are so out of touch with the industry.
