  • Kinda curious if me skipping all the shitty older versions is why I think the current one is fine. I always opt in to the new versions ASAP to get the pain of switching out of the way sooner rather than later.

  • I got a new job, fully remote, and we use Teams. Not gonna lie, I don’t get the hate. It seems as exactly adequate as WebEx or Zoom. None of them make me cum, none of them make me upset.

What is it about Teams that people hate so much? How does WebEx or Zoom do it any better?

Fully onboard with hating new Outlook though, fuck it sucks. Can’t even browse the global address list, it’s search only.

  • That doesn’t sound like an abuse of checks and balances to me, to be honest. This is exactly how the system is designed. They still need a majority to pass anything.

Flip the script for a moment; imagine we had ultra right wing judges who make insane judgements. Is it not the whole point of checks and balances for the legislative and executive branches to be able to exert some control over the judiciary branch provided they have an appropriate majority?

I don’t agree with Johnson, he’s a cunt, but this doesn’t seem like abuse per se, rather exactly how the system was designed. I’m not worried about it because they don’t have the votes.

  • the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in the Association for Molecular Pathology v. Myriad Genetics, Inc, that human genes cannot be patented because DNA is a “product of nature.” All gene patents were invalidated with this ruling.

  • I spend a grand on a nice adjustable dumbbell set and a bench and went from 165lbs to 210lbs over the last 18 months with a combination of weight training and eating better. It’s absolutely possible to work out at home with the resources that are out there these days. I do miss some of the equipment at the gym but the convenience of a home gym is just too good.

I would point out that getting lean/shredded is not a function of the gym, it’s a function of the kitchen. You cannot out exercise a bad or even mediocre diet. You can use a gym to build muscle, increase flexibility, or improve cardiovascular fitness, but there’s no avoiding making changes to your diet if you want to decrease body fat.

  • At no point did I say this was ineffective at extorting men. I am saying that due to societal biases women tend to be judged (unfairly, in case that’s not clear) more than men for any given sexual activity. This makes blackmail more effective.

  • I feel like this would be much easier to attribute to “boys will be boys” than an excuse for women. The odds of being negatively judged for being a slut are significantly higher for women than they are for a man.

I’m not saying men aren’t negatively judged for these things, but if you took 100 people and showed them equally compromising pictures, my money is on more people negatively judging the woman. It’s a deep rooted societal bias.

I think the reason men are more likely to send unsolicited nudes is because there’s not going to be near as much consequence as compared to a woman. Same reason I think blackmail with nudes is likely more effective on women.

  • Not the commenter you replied to, but I would say it’s more effective on women due societal biases. Of course men can be extorted with nudes too, but the same tactic will be more effective if used on a female population. There’s still an expectation for women to be modest, or at least more so than men. How often do you see women topless vs men?

  • we always end up elevating the ones that show great technical skills into management

I wish that was more often the case. I’ve never seen this once in my life.

As a counterpoint, I’d point to Boeing. They used to have engineers as management in their glory days, then once the business leaders of McDonnell Douglas took over, everything began to go downhill.

Not that I think what you’re saying is fundamentally wrong - they are indeed different skill sets - I’ve just not seen someone who’s great at their technical job get promoted to leadership. It’s usually social skills that get people promoted, in my experience. The people with great technical skills end up staying as worker bees, as they don’t want to deal with people, and get end up exploited by the ones with social skills.
