  • You’ve given a lot more context and use cases here that you oppose and I would agree with them for the most part, but I would push back on the people using text narration switching to an AI voice as a natural progression as the tool becomes more useful.

As for seeing a video that has been improved by AI I would hazard a guess you’re already watching them, if you think creators are not using LLMs to improve their workflow and efficiency then you’d be mistaken.

I can’t comment on any specifics but our company of software engineers have saved that many man hours from LLM integration, as a tool not just write code for us, that me and my 5 colleagues all got a pay rise and a reduction of weekly hours at the same time. So based on this I would assume that if used correctly and responsibly I don’t see why people in other industries can’t use the tool for similar benefits.

  • I like to approach things in life with positive intent, so seeing a video with an AI voice to me would make me assume that perhaps they don’t have a great voice or that they have a stammer so so an Ai voice allows them to still make content they want to.

I find that life is a lot better if you assume the best in people rather than assume the worse. And I can tell you that since I’ve taken this approach I’m a much happier person and it’s extremely rare that I give positive intent to someone with bad intentions so worth it for less stress and worrying about things all the time.

Do you think the same of channels that pay someone else to be the face of the channel or is it just Ai voices you have issue with?

  • But why?

Like sure some of the voices are not great but the words being said are the thing I’m interested in and not the person / machine saying the words.

Each to their own and all that, I’m just curious as to why you just stop watching something you were seemingly enjoying.

  • Ok I just spent 20 mins with an LLM and it got me setup with three Js and adding landmarks to a flat earth projection.

I’ve not the time nor inclination to take it further but happy to share a link to the code if someone else wants to expand on it.

I am a software developer and my curiosity was piqued and the LLM cured that, but happy to zip up the project.

Leaves a lot to be desired as it’s not what you would actually see and more a play on this meme where you can use the camera to set vantage point and see how things would align. We used cubes of various heights based on the landmark to represent landmarks so no crazy graphics.

Edit: Never ceases to amaze how many people downvote LLM mentions like they don’t have some utility. Bias is clearly showing. Like I could tackle this on my own, but do I want to spend hours doing something on a whim or 20 minutes with an LLM to get something functional with a little back and forth is well worth it imo.

  • That’s very true but it becomes another dependency for me to manage, which is fine if that’s your thing but I struggle with motivation sometimes.

For instance my media server crapped the bed last night and debugging today felt like a chore. Turns out that I didn’t properly manage the docker side of things and where it stores things so I ran out of space on the server disk. My plan is to move the docker stuff to a vault in truenas and automate clearing old images and stuff, but as I say it’s a chore at times so don’t want to be adding another thing I need to manage as when in a bad headspace it’ll not get done.

Now this also highlighted an issue I must have, not been back to check docker compose, in that Plex doesn’t have access to my libraries now so the config must be wrong as Jellyfin worked perfectly. Means I’ll need to spend the time to resolve this so my users can continue on Plex which they prefer, I also prefer Plex but Jellyfin seems to work better on iOS.

Hope you see this response as me just expressing my use case and I have no judgement on you for sharing as I like to know what’s out there still.
