  • I don’t think you understand. I am not paying for them.

    I have AC+.

Either you buy high quality screen protectors for your £1000 device or you don’t bother. The same for cases. Mous for instance are extremely durable, but not as good value as AC.

I’m 12 months in and not had a claim but best believe before the two year mark my phone WILL have an incident and for £79 I get a replacement with a new battery and all.

Or I could buy a case that holds no value, my phone can still break and then it’ll cost me more money. Than just having insurance which is guaranteed to make me whole again.

  • Why should it be illegal?

It’s perfectly legal to photograph strangers in public. You’re in public you have no reasonable expectation of privacy.

I don’t see people assaulting CCTV cameras for instance.

Sure some weirdos might I use it for nefarious reasons but if it didn’t exist they would still be weirdos using something else.

  • I don’t really complain about seeing ads in apps i didn’t pay for, but I do complain about seeing ads on public transit and in the world in general. I don’t want the world plastered with ads.

Hell they’re on the motorways here which seems ludicrous.

  • Don’t bother with cases and just get AppleCare+.

A glass screen protector is £20-30, replacing the display under AC is £25.

A decent case like a Mous one is £50. Replacing the device under AC is £79.

Plus the phone looks nicer, temps are better, and it’s less cases being manufactured.

  • I agree it’s still good to know these things.

I also think there should be reasonable limits on what data they can try to access. Like do Uber need to know my location? Obviously, whilst I’m using the app, but they absolutely don’t need to access my contacts.

  • I suppose it depends on why you’re learning a thing. If you’re seriously trying to learn a language then using a variety of tools that cover different aspects of language learning is vital.

For me and Duo (Spanish) I’m on a 438 day streak and I couldn’t talk to someone but I could read enough to get by, but I am not learning Spanish to learn Spanish. I know that sounds ridiculous, but learning new things for me is more about the journey and having fun along the way, without having any pressure of this is my end goal. I just like learning different things and often just move on as my curiosity changes.

That’s not to say that I don’t learn some things with an end goal, as an example I’m a junior software developer so I had to be more structured with that.

Duo has 6500 Spanish words too.

  • When it says purchase history, surely that’s not all your purchases?

Also, on iOS at least, many of these would ask for permission and be met with a “that’s a no from me dawg”. Things like photos, contacts, and location data for instance.

  • Like a Reddit bot but on Lemmie.

    What’s a Reddit bot?

Like a discord bot but on Reddit.

    What’s a discord bot?

Jokes. It’s a program that makes comments on posts. They could be for tldr or any other use case. For example a spelling bot can catch mistakes and post a reply. Reminder bots can remind you etc.
