  • Ya I had a hard time using reddit at first.

  • please share if you do. last time I looked (maybe a year ago) podcasts and audiobooks still have a lot of gaps in selfhosted.

Since podcasts are RSS feeds could you use an existing RSS aggregator? Need to add a player and track play time I guess.

  • is keybase still a thing?

edit: nm the post say it was acquired by zoom. i guess i lost the bet i made with myself that it was a crypto scam.

  • you gotta have downlines

  • are you sure it is not just people who are jazzed up on being anti reddit and showing it?

  • I want things to be like reddit but perfect. ok?

  • gosh it isn't "narcissist" to not "check the latest couple dozen posts". I guess you are a person who sits all day and all night at a computer ya?

Especially with the weird sorting on the fediverse you could miss it even if you read 25 posts. But do I read 24 posts every time I post 1? No.

If the URL is identical the software should let the user know when posting. It happened to me on reddit before. it would let you post it but you had to confirm. Usually I'd just kill it at that point.

  • In just two days, researchers found 112 instances of known CSAM across 325,000 posts

“We got more photoDNA hits in a two-day period than we’ve probably had in the entire history of our organization of doing any kind of social media analysis, and it’s not even close,”

In the whole history of this group they have found less than 112 pieces of CSAM? It's Stanford University. Why not drop in on a few of Jeffery Epstein's friends and fans. They can tell you were to look.

  • link doesn't work. literally nobody can figure out hos to link thing here. The system makes no sense.. this really need to get smoothed out. I got these links from your community which I just got to by typing.

hopefully at least one of the works.

  • well you can hold an unpopular belief at any intensity. they are independent variables.

For example, I think store-brand (any store brand) potato chips are better than the same flavor/style of the national brand 100% of the time. I infer this is unpopular because the national brand costs $2-3x as much so there is no reason to ever buy them, yet they stay in business and I see people eating them.

But I by no means feel strongly about this. It has been probably 10 years since I mentioned it to anyone. I wouldn't turn down any potato chip no mater how expensive it is. They are all pretty good tbh.

Maybe what you are actually trying to capture is along the lines of:
    this-is-actually-fascinating
    nobodyKnowsHowMuchofMyLifeThisTakesUp
    blooilsmyblood
    IfeelStronglyThat
    EverybodyIsDoingThisWrong
    WhyAreYouSoWrong
    ThisThingthatILove
    or simply
StonglyHeldBeliefs.. isn't that what you want to see?

Tho you know what you might really get a kick out of is this podcast: Trampoline Hall. RSS feed. You can find youtubes if you prefer.

Trampoline Hall is a barroom lecture... it asks lecturers to take a vulnerable, theatrical risk and speak on a subject they’re not professionally expert in. Subjects range from absurd and arcane obsessions to heartbreakingly personal stories.

I think you might find some good energy there.

  • my opinion is that the unpopularopinion people should have more rigorous methodologies when asserting as to the popularity of an opinion. Is that a popular opinion? I doubt it. But I don't know for sure so I guess I won't tie my identity to it. Does it count as unpopular because virtually no one on earth has ever thought about it one way or the other? Or do you only include in the n people who have some opinion on the question?

What will the citation requirements be for this subreddit?

  • Idk who in the world would change > from being blockquote to some kind of list. It is a standard used since long before markdown ever existed. A list and a quote are totally dissimilar parts of document and switching to render one as the other would be terribly confusing.

The point of md is simple interoperability and portability.

For anyone who is interested: markdown basic syntax. I do not think the above constututes a flavour of md.

  • well, do you think there should be votes at all? why/not?

if you think there oughta be votes, do you think those values should persist outside of the thread they are cast in? I have seen others comment recently to the contrary. the vote exists on the individual statement and goes nowhere.
