  • And it's okay for them to be hetro life-mates, or bffs, or whatever. It's okay for people to head cannon them as gay if they like, but all they were ever intended to represent was a kind and loving friendship between two dudes who were fundamentally different. By the same token, love, kindness, and actually being friends with your partner is important even in a romantic relationship. Bert and Ernie are good role models for any relationship really, as they were meant to be.

  • I aim for a (un)healthy mixture of tech and political commentary, far more than I could ever actually listen to.

Based on your current selections, you seem to favor comedy/celebrities/comedians. I don't follow too much stuff like that, but I have maybe two suggestions: Blocked and Reported for Internet bullshit (furry infighting, Adult Baby Diaper Lovers, Twitter drama). It tends towards a sort of moderate liberal/radical centrist politics. Srsly Wrong do kind-hearted goofy skits to explain their politics. Self-identified utopian socialists.

Most of the rest of the stuff I listen to is some variant of interviews with important thinkers or 2+ dudes/chicks/yos shooting the shit about socialism or FLOSS.

  • Never seen anyone steal baby formula outside a riot, because it's always locked up.

But yeah, I'm sure some people steal because they're hungry, but the people I saw steal when working grocery stole steaks, lobster, shrimp, eye drops, high-end hair products, and workers' hours. If someone was ever stealing out of need (fuck, even a single carbohydrate) they were slick enough about it not to get caught. But we tracked shrink, and could tell when something disappeared without account.

  • I bought Continue?9876543210 because I thought it sounded interesting and had about $10 to burn.

I thought it was hauntingly beautiful, and I got hung up following Jason Oda after that. I think he's got great instincts for video game design, even if his last game Waking still needs polish (but is also gorgeous). I'm actually afraid he's thrown in the towel, having tried to bite off more than he could chew, but I hope to keep seeing new works from him anyway. Solo indie game development is a kind of hell I assume.

  • I wonder if Dawson Casting is quite right though. I'm thinking here of an actor playing a man in his mid 20s, but looking much older. Whether he was or not, I'm not sure, but flipping through Wikipedia's transcripts of the opening narrations of the first season episodes, I see:

    E21 has Vera Miles playing a 25 year old when she's 30.

E31 has George Grizzard playing someone in his "youthful 20s" when he's about 32 and looks it.

Seems similar, but also different: older actors playing younger people.

  • The YouTube channel Then and Now is pretty good for beginners.

CCK Philosophy is good for Nietzsche, Marx, and postmodern / continental philosophy broadly, but you'll get more out of his work after reading a bit of those first.

Ben Burgis is a Marxist who teaches logic. He's not always a great public speaker, but he's very affable and generally on point. Will interview interesting people too.

  • The company (Uber, Instacart, etc) is basically:

    1. An app for drivers/shoppers.
    2. An app for consumers.
    3. The servers to facilitate communication.
    4. A subcontracted call center in India for support and customer service.
    5. A third-party payroll processor.
    6. A handful of administrative people and techs to keep it running. Plus some shareholders to take the money.

So not counting drivers and contracted services, it's practically a small business. Seems easy enough to emulate.
