  • Yeah! We need to make it really clear that we don't care about the really big greenhouse gas producers, or the people that are a thousand times more wealthy and more problematic than Tailor Swift.

We just want to sound like we care by targeting someone who is comparatively not doing that much damage.

It's all for the lulls after all.

  • You made it through the first layer of Anti-Communism propaganda. Congratulations!

Now here comes the next layer of propaganda. These so-called failed communist examples you speak of. Were any of them actually communism? Or were they just authoritarians calling themselves Communists to try to make people think they weren't authoritarian?

  • I would disagree, I think governments could stand to get bigger. Tax the wealthy more to close the income gap and get single payer healthcare, so our healthcare isn't tied to our jobs.

  • That is a valid take. It also a sign that the current system isn't working.

The people should be in control of the government and the government should spend money on its people.

Unfortunately, that isn't the case right now. We need to work together to fix this.

  • Good question.

Ok, so let's say the artist does exactly what the AI does, in that they don't try to do anything unique, just looking around at existing content and trying to mix and mash existing ideas. No developing of their own style, no curiosity of art history, no humanity, nothing. In this case I would say that they are mechanically doing the exact same thing as an AI is doing. Do I think I they should get payed. Yes! They spent a good chunk of their life developing this skill, they are a human, they deserve to get their basic needs met and not die of hunger or exposure. Now, this is a strange case because 99.99% of artists don't do this. Most develop a unique style and add life experience in their art to generate something new.

A Software Engineer can profit off their AI model by selling it. If they are make money by generating images, then they are making money off of hard working artists that should be payed for their work. That isn't great. The outcome of allowing this is that art will no longer be something you can do to make a living. This is bad for society.

It also should be noted that a Software Engineer making an AI model from scratch is 0.01% of the AIs being used. Most people, lay people, who have spent very little time developing art or Software Engineering skills can easily use an existing model to create "art". The result of this is that many talented artists that could bring new and interesting ideas to world are being out competed by one guy with a web browser producing sub-par sloppy work.

  • I remember being young and making bad political decisions. If my generation got to do that why not gen alpha? I hope the legacy my generation leaves behind helps gen alpha elect the leaders that they want without being fooled by the lies.

  • It's not that CEOs just happened to be evil. It's a material conditions problem. Anyone who becomes a CEO has tremendous pressure to become evil. You could even argue that the steps you would have to take to become a CEO are morally problematic. So the pressure to become evil starts early. As soon as you enter the job market.

  • I still think a good chunk of the code will be visible. You can have all the code up to the point where you call the proprietary function. Obviously you won't get to see what's inside that function but you can guess. Also, a lot of proprietary libraries have that functionality really well documented.

  • Interesting. I'm pretty ignorant about the Zapatistas. Looking over the Wikipedia and they seem all right.

I don't quite follow you. Do you mean like instead of winning the revolution. You take a chunk of the country create borders and install some kind of anarchy?

  • That's fair. I think generally anarchists have good ideas. If there is a violent revolution, I would probably end up being your comrade in arms.

I don't think we would win though. Most people think anarchism is a bad word right now. I can't imagine recruiting fighters during the revolution under the banner of anarchism. Hell even progressivism isn't very popular. As always, liberals are the problem.

We may have to have a revolution but I think it needs way more time to cook.
