  • One always minimises attack surfaces and the possibility of fat fingered mistakes. The lower privileges that you grant yourself the better.

You'd think that Dave Cutler who, I believe, designed Windows NT coming from a Unix style background would have followed these principles but no. I discovered *nix late sadly.

  • Thank-you.

Off topic: I keep meaning to ask this; am I still able to use wallet like applications to make RFID payments with GrapheneOS?

I'm one of those strange people that spends physical cash like water but much better with electronic currency.

I think that's the only thing that stops me bar having to get a new battery.

  • TIL that I'm cynical. Damn.

Looks like my next but one phone will be a iPhone. I never imagined that I would ever say that. Ever.

Google let me down when visual voicemail (or whatever they were going to call it) failed to appear!

  • There's a difference between invisible and purposely ignored.

  • Typically only the ones from my local doctor's surgery are legit no number (UK). Government agencies provide numbers these days as far as I've seen.

So I haven't/can't blocked no numbers on the Google phone app.

  • There's a certain irony in the BBC reporting sex crimes rather than hiding them.

  • Lemmy is catching up on Reddit. The technical forums/c/r are not as useful yet, and not enough of the hardware suppliers monitor the/their Lemmy communities.

Once that changes over I don't need Reddit.

  • I wanted to say thank you sincerely for instantiating President for life Field Marshal Lord Starmer.

  • You (Telegraph) missed a word out there: none of us MPs should pay tax on savings; fuck the rest of you/us.

If MPs have to pay tax, we'll either vote through a compensating pay/expenses rise, or claim it back on expenses.

  • The 'Mercans are not usually aware that there are other countries besides the two countries, Europe and Africa.

I assume you define patriotism as belief in one's country because no other populated countries actually exist.

In sharp contradiction, most 'Mercans believe that they are Irish, a small town in Delaware.

  • This sounds so incredibly wonderful.

I have no real idea why I subscribe to this community, I don't even play chess very well, but the thought of unsubscribing is an anathema.

  • Oh! You and your 'facts' are soooo out-dated. We don't do that anymore. This is my truth.

  • "I'm afraid that you will not be allowed back into your home today. The Met Office [or whatever it's called] has said that the weather pattern is for snow. Unfortunately, it's the wrong type for your locale. Please make alternative living arrangements until further notice."

Why not? They've failed miserably at delivering cost effective rail transport - it's cheaper to fly from your local airport on Ryanair to Spain and back to the local nearest destination airport - they might as well have a go at fucking up housing.

Guessing that the 'houses' are actually train carriages that have been continually stuck in sidings since time immemorial.

  • Nice try, Mr Farage.

  • Nowadays, the traditional mandarin method of cocking up - the briefcase on the train - is considered too cost ineffective even for Government/depts.

Moving to the pOrn mag method: pushing random pages into hedges over wider area.
