  • Could be. How would your. or I, know?

  • Avoidance.

Going as far as AvPD: https://sh.itjust.works/c/avpd

[ Help me out someone please. I don't think that that is the correct way to express a community in a comment, but it's what share in the community gave me.]

  • Need to provide context or definition.

Left wing are designated by the colour red in the UK. Red means right wing in the US.

Are you actually talking about a colour or politics? Everyone knows that in the US everything is pro or anti Trump even when the person they're talking at isn't 'Mercan. Soup, soap, potatoes, carrots.

Or is it as simple as, for example, 'Lady in Red' by Chris de Burgh?

  • Hahaha! Please someone. Help the poor darling.

    He's exactly a week early.

  • For many years I installed Fedora from scratch (almost as if my PC was a Linux container and then added a kernel setup) to be exactly as I wanted it no cruft, no bloat. I did that with other distros as well, Debian didn't recommend SELinux.

Last year I installed it from scratch using the installer and that included SELinux. With changes in SELinux policy, I found an installed flatpak which successive iterations didn't like SELinux or tried to operate outside it. Fixing it was easy but I didn't do so until I understood why it was violating.

I had unknowingly subscribed to the FUD about SELinux, I doesn't get in my way. Maybe I'm not as elite as I thought I was!

  • As does aural frequency range. There are some anti teen alarms which use high pitched sounds only teens can hear.

  • Yes. Almost always.

As a kid, we wanted to obscure what we said from the adults or at least make them stop listening (there was a phase when I was in school of including a speech impediment when speaking; we found that teachers didn't listen to us after a little while.).

We'd either done something the adults had forbidden or were about to, something that would cause us embarrassment if the adults knew, or it was just more exciting if they didn't know.

As the adults catch on to what things mean, we all using those terms in that specific way.

I'm using 'adults' to mean someone who is responsible for themselves so somewhere between eighteen and thirty.

If you're an adult reading this in the UK and US (maybe other places), urban dictionary is your friend.

  • I think you're starting too big, to use your phrase.

Get used to the basics first: what's different (to whatever you're running now), what's the same. They Linux distributions almost all have GUIs (KDE, GNOME are the main ones but there are many others).

Run a live USB version from a usb stick to get used to it until you have the confidence to install it on an old pc. Personally I do not recommend dual booting; data gets lost that way. Install it on an old pc and learn how to restore your backups to a Linux filesystem (not the fs of what you're used to on Linux platform). I write that because you said that want to end up with a Linux server.

Choose one of the top few from distrowatch.com/

Your aim is to understand what's going on under neither the GUI; how permissions work.

I started by installing a VoIP product into a VM on Windows 2000, but there are better ways now.

Good luck. You shouldn't find it that difficult.

  • Thank-you for your eloquence and loquacious reply.

  • You forgot micromanaging.

  • Please don't desecrate my Linux with (what I assume is) Windows talk.

    Bleugh! I need a shower!

[The worst Linux users are ex Windows users; 2004 vintage here]

  • Ethics. Police.

    In the same post.

I'm not police, but I am in the legal industry. Ethics is talked about a lot. Not seen much.

I think most phones have recording apps.

  • Yes; the command prefix that you're looking for is

shutdown now ; (followed by your sudo command if you wish)

It will provide the appropriate delay before using the root command via sudo or having logged again as root (sigh)!

  • I bought a dozen prunes once. One didn't work.

  • [tangential] Please can I suggest that you follow a path to remove grub completely. There really isn't any need to have it anymore, certainly on systemd distributions. I don't know much about Void Linux and the others, so YMMV there.

    Re-edit: it's a ArchLinux community. Doh!

  • I'm missing the end of the sentence. Looks as if it got cut off.

  • I have always hated 'find' with the non-standard options. Basic RegEx is easy to use and fd became a firm favourite from the off.

  • Wasn't aware that US citizens knew of the existence of other counties, maybe excepting that they are all in Europe; Africa being another, possibly different, country.

Jokes aside. It's not much better here in the UK.
