  • I'm fine with config files, as long as they are where you expect them (~/.config/tool or ~/.tool). What I dislike is yet another funny config syntax because the dev couldn't settle on an established standard. Command line syntax is ok, if you give me sensible completions.

  • I guess that's the life of an ad owner. Just like the dude handing out free samples in the mall. Most of the people don't buy the sampled product and effectively waste the dude's money (out his employer's money).

I use an adblocker, so you're safe from me clicking your links :P

  • Technically you still have a web of trust with S/MIME. You just don't say "I trust you because X said you're good and I trust X" but you say "I trust you, because you paid X money and X did probably a good background check on you". So rather a tree than a web.

I guess it is philosophical to argue if a tree can be considered a net as well.

  • Not exactly. Maybe you benefit from an additional virus scan (if Proton does this). What you certainly benefit from is the "only load external resources when told to" feature. This prevents tracking since loading the external resource == the mail was opened.

What exactly do you want to achieve in terms of security?

  • Using the self checkout for larger shopping is ok in my book. But what sucks is using the SCO and buying an age restricted item (e.g. beer). The checkout locks down and summons an employee to verify the age and unlock the station again. If you buy age restricted items, go to the normal checkout where your greying hair is accepted as age verification!

  • Your basic theory of "app developer wants me to like the app" is flawed. They don't want you to like the app, just to watch as much ads as possible. And since they get more money if you click the ad, the X has to be extra small. But they cannot remove the X since guidelines say they have to provide a way to close the ad without interacting with it.

  • Yep full support for these points:

    • having to triple check the AI output
    • output is confidently incorrect which furthers the first problem
    • If I want AI answers, I ask the bot directly and thus know how to interpret the result

But: we cannot ensure no AI content is posted as answer. Just putting up the rule that we don't want it.
