  • I guess they’re on a train?

The problem with short URLs is that, when the site is down, as it is now, I can’t reverse engineer what the original link was.

  • Larry, Curly, and Moe don’t go to Best Korea nor break any of its laws.

  • Okay, then presumably you intended to link to this episode, because what you linked to was the show itself and not a specific episode.

  • Additionally, China is booming, so there’s no need for scapegoats. And if they ever need someone to scapegoat? Well, they have the United States and capitalism.

I’ve made this point to an ultra “Marxist” last month https://lemmygrad.ml/post/6776170/5837212

Unlike the US economy, China’s economy is not in a time of crisis, and all polls recent polls—even Western polls—show that the Chinese people are rather content with the progression of their material conditions and with their government. Unlike in the US in particular and the highly & still-increasingly neoliberalized imperial core in general, there is no urgency to “divert” the proletariat into consumerism or reactionary politics. Divert them from what? From their steadily improving quality of life, their rising incomes and falling costs-of-living? From their 25,000 miles of high speed rail?

You’re simply projecting our dire situation onto China. But Americans going on RedNote right now are seeing that their situation is quite different from ours. To our bourgeoisie, it is a threat of a good example that they don’t want us to see.

  • I also noticed that in many of your comments, you respond to people bringing up valid criticism and points by saying “Prove it, no CIA” but using American-based and funded sources yourself.

So here’s another issue. The reason I use western sources when possible is because those are the only sources that western liberals tend to accept.

    They pull this catch-22 allthefuckingtime.

I understand your point that 30 diplomats from Muslim nations have visited Xinjiang and stated that China is doing an excellent job, however, it is just as important to note that many of these nations rely on China's economic support through the Belt and Road initiative, so they wouldn’t risk talking bad about China.

So the Muslim majority countries are lying because they’re all corrupt, but the white western countries (who routinely bomb Muslims) are telling the truth and aren’t corrupt?

Nonfalsifiable orthodoxy hours. Yet more imperial core chauvinist catch-22 shitfuckery.

Lengthy article; I’ll have to pick it up where I left off tomorrow. Amazing stuff—thanks!

  • I see him as a comedy actor who got in way over his head as a pawn of the comprador oligarchy.

I’ve never seen Being There, so I don’t know if there are any parallels to draw from it.

  • For decades Soros has been a lightning rod for every flavor of antisemitism. A whole gamut of unhinged conspiracy theories have developed around him. I wouldn’t investigate too deeply because the rabbit holes have no bottom; it’s a big waste of time.

  • My usual push-back on the federal “taxpayer money” framing.

Edit to add for the MMT skeptics, previously:

MMT is just a description of how fiat monetary sovereignty works. It’s not prescriptive, and it’s not comprehensive. For instance, it says nothing about international trade / international balance of payments / currency exchange.

Liberals, being liberals, take this description, expand it in liberal ways, add liberal prescriptions, and then call that mess—which can’t work—MMT as well.

  • I don’t even know what it was or is.

  • A couple of points.

We’re talking about open source software here, right? They’re not as susceptible to capitalist enshittification, and they can always be forked.

I don’t see using some particular open source software as an endorsement or support for the ideologies of the people who made it. I’m not subscribing to an ideology, I’m just using a tool. There isn’t even a consumer activism argument to be made here, because these are free tools.

  • What is your actual concern here? Are your concerns that the security and privacy of these protocols and/or software may be compromised? Or are you concerned about something else? Because this sounds rather like a purity fetish thing. Almost everyone in the imperial core is like these people, so if you need your software to come strictly from anti-imperialists then you may be waiting a long time.

Somewhat relatedly: Why not Signal? » Good Alternatives

  • I suppose their options were: 1) do it, 2) quit, or 3) stand up to Sundar Pichai and never work in the industry again.

He was among the tech oligarchs at the inauguration last month.

  • I don’t think I’ll ever fully understand the wash of endorphins Western libs get from signaling their anti-seeseepee virtue to each other. It’s like drugs.

  • Somewhere in the libbyverse:

  • If you’re on Linux or MacOS, you can try adding this line to /etc/hosts:

     plaintext

    37.187.73.130 hexbear.net

That should get you a working https://hexbear.net/ and maybe an improved UI on https://chapo.net/.
