  • The one thing we couldn’t spin up though are core services that I mentioned - banking, healthcare, government sites, etc.

🤔 Actually, if we banded together and had enough people with the know-how and willpower, we could in principle open up our own credit union. Credit unions are alternatives to banks and are specifically designed for shit like this. Just as there are teachers' and firefighters' credit unions, so too could there be one for, say, us Lemmonades.

  • So basically, we're going to have to build a separate internet that rejects this new protocol and allows for alternate browsers. That tactic, combined with piracy and offering everything the big guys charge money for for free, might be enough to draw at least a chunk of the people away from it.

  • That really is the solution. We desperately need to make our own websites again and boycott the shitty corporate controlled ones. If we can replace Reddit with Lemmy, we can replace every other piece of shit site or app they come up with too.

  • 🤔 People could just make a new protocol and build a separate internet from the ground up.

But they'd have to do it on free Linux computers, because the ones with Windows and Mac OSes (and the specially made chips) can be accessed directly by those companies. In principle, they can see into everyone's hard drives and add or delete shit to their whims. So a way around that would have to be found too. Scary...

  • The only ones who really want an echo chamber are you and he. 🤷 And you might not want to hear it, but other people aren't obligated to agree with you on any issue, let alone this one. You can't stop us from thinking as we please.

    Good day to you.

  • I think you just agree with the other guy and you can't really come up with a good reason why.

You understand we don't have to just comply with you, right? The rest of us have integrity and self-respect, and we won't invest time and effort arguing with people like him who are clearly not going to listen, who clearly have an agenda, and clearly have no respect for others.

  • It hardly matters how we feel about his argument. We dislike his behaviour, and it's obvious that he's disguising a really poor attempt at intimidating people into compliance through insult, ad-homs, and a domineering attitude.

People who are correct don't do that. Ergo, we can dismiss him off-hand. If you disagree with that, you disagree with the basic premises of logical debate, rendering any debate meaningless.

  • Walmart doesn't sell guns anymore. They stopped because of the BLM uprising back in 2020.

That being said... I don't really support violence or a violent revolution, but I am wise enough to have empathy for those that do. It really does seem like that tree of liberty is in need of watering.

I really feel like economic solutions would be more effective. They can't argue against who owns the land. What I really don't understand is why it is no one goes to the feds -- the FBI would probably help.

  • It's not really, it's pretty weak, and we can tell from the way he speaks of (people he views as) his opponents. If it was strong, he wouldn't have to call names or insult those he's seeking to convince, or try to bully them. I've seen that sort of thing many many times in my life. Honestly, people should treat his and the arguments of anyone who resorts to ad hom and abusive behavior as sus.

  • Well, that's one way to tell us you can't make a solid point without attacking the person or violating civility. Your attitude will cause the very violence you seek to prevent. You can't claim that debate would be effective at solving the problem or even possible if you can't even treat people with respect on Lemmy.

  • Not really. They'll have to move to cities where they are vastly outnumbered by people who are far more anti-racist, way more organized, who have more economic power and who vote. That will dilute their power and allow Democrats to control more land and more of the gerrymandered counties the Republicans reserved for themselves, taking away their ability to dominate the political system.
