  • Some websites can be directly "installed" in you app drawer. They are really like an advanced shortcut for the mobile webpage. You probably haven't seen it a lot because commercial webs that want to shove their propietary app down your throat disable this option.

But both Lemmy and Mastodon have it enabled.

To do so, click on options on your desired browser and you'll find an "addto startup page" option or something along those lines.

  • Fenestra is the latin word for window. Similar words are used in some latin languages as Italian, catalán or Galician.

I don't think it would be much used in central Europe, maybe in Romanian, as it also derivated from latin. But I don't think that would be the case for Germanic or slavic languages.

Edit: just looked it up, seems like some Germanic languages also have the same Latin root for window.

  • Called out on a guy that was faking being Ukrainian for getting a free card making xenofóbic comments and denying the Armenian genocide (he was indeed from Turkey). I presented prove and evidences that he changed his flair from Turkish to Ukrainian and stated saying in every post that he was Ukrainian just after the Russian invasion, and that he was doing it to get more attention from people while he went full on denying any crime done in the present or the past by Turkey/Ottomans.

Somehow I ended up banned and he did not. r/Europe in a nutshell. I never step a foot in that subreddit after that.

  • How is Debian for servers?

I'm currently running Ubuntu server. And it's really convenient. I even appreciate snaps as they keep things clean for the server.

Certainly I wanted something Debian based, I know some people using Fedora por servers but I really like Debian/Ubuntu LTR and not having to worry about updates so often.

Does Debian offer a lightweight server image without DE as Ubuntu?

  • I've been in forums where upvotes were public. It's not something that I expect to be anonymous by design.

That being said. If something is public, it should be clear that is public (and available to everyone), if it's not it should be protected.

I think Lemmy should go one way or the other, or upvotes are public to everyone, or they are available only for you instance admins.
