  • I honestly don't know why Google bothers to make the "a" series of Pixels.

Surely the regular Pixel sells so poorly that they are ahead loosing money on it. Why lose even more by making the cheaper a?

  • What it says is, don't buy Boeing, buy Airbus instead.

For years I've always checked that the plane I'm on is an Airbus because the few Boeing's I've been on rattled like mad and the build quality and materials used were clearly rubbish. I'm not surprised the doors are falling off....

  • Opensuse Tumbleweed is what you should try and see if you have the same issue.

If not, stick with that. It's a rolling release but typically very reliable.

And it's not a corporation like Fedora/IBM Red Hat

  • The A35 is basically the current A54 but with the new frame.

I was thinking about getting the A54 later in the year for my wife and I but by then I probably won't be able to find any if the A55 comes out in march.

And I'm not a fan of the new frame on the A55 plus the price will be higher than the current A54. I would buy the A54 now but have to save up for it....

    Bad timing

  • Dual booting is the easy part, but exposing the Linux filesystem is the hard part.

I personally would just run Linux as a VM inside macOS using Parallels or Oracle Virtualbox. It will be alot easier and more reliable.

Plus the hardware will work properly whereas with Linux on bare metal Mac, some hardware doesn't work at all like thunderbolt, SD cards and webcam.

  • Linux Mint or Linux Mint Debian Edition installs very nicely on that machine and is one of the better working distros for apple hardware. It should auto detect the WiFi driver which is normally the pain point because it uses broadcom and the drivers are reverse engineered.

I don't think thunderbolt works, the SD card reader might not work and the video camera definitely won't work. Plus on standby the battery will drain flat.

These are the issues I had on my 2015 MacBook Pro before it died. I need to take it to apple for diagnosis but don't have the money right now.

However I run Linux Mint Debian Edition on a 2014 Mac Mini and it's ok

Generally Apple hardware is a pain with Linux. You get better results with pc hardware - better Harare compatibility and less issues

  • Cinnamon normally has incremental updates. If you're hoping for some massive new features update, you're going to be disappointed. I think at most you might get a Wayland option.

On Linux Mint you have that option, I don't think it's on Linux Mint Debian Edition yet and not sure about Arch.

But at for the look and feel etc, I don't expect to see any change. I'm assuming the default cinnamon you install on Arch is pretty bland and not as nice as the LM version. But you just need to find out how they themed it to get the same cool look.

The only improvement I'd like to see is an auto dark mode at sunset option added. The rest is fine by me. I run Linux Mint Debian Edition.

  • I totally agree. I am an IT Profe and it's still very irritating to have to jump through these hoops. Plus each manufacturer has a different key you need to press to access the bios. Sometimes the same OEM will have different keys on different models.

So you try the normal ones which don't work and then have to Google the model number to try find out which key to hold.

Frustrating and time consuming. And definitely makes it very difficult for the average user to install Linux.

I sometimes think Microsoft did it on purpose to hinder Linux installs and then disguised it as "security".

It's not really "security" if you can turn it off is it?

  • Brilliant. F1 should seriously do this. Who wants to see Max win all the time and tell us how great the car is?

  • Great news. I wish they would also deduct stars if the heating/cooling controls are not physical too.

  • I never said China was good either. I just said Apple are being jackasses.

Newsflash: there is no such thing as a good government or politician. They are typically all scumbags.

Seems Apple is following in their footsteps

  • I didn't say China was bad. I said Apple was bad.

And you can make a very good Android phone with AOSP. You won't have Google services but you could make your own app store like Huawei and Samsung have.

  • Many of these companies still exist but do other things. The biggest open source successful project is Servers - much servers run Linux. After that the next most successful open source is Android - the best selling mobile OS on the planet. That's really my friend....

  • Are you on drugs or something bro? I don't hate anyone. If anything I feel sorry for apple customers because they are being abused and don't even know it.

You should read up on Richard Stallman and the ideas of Libre Software/Free Open Source Software.

Then you will understand how bad Apple really is towards its users and why everyone should be using Linux and open source software.

  • Bro, don't believe everything you read. Which OBJECTIVE 3rd party has verified this?

Nobody. The US told Canada to comply or else, and they went along with the BS story.

I SERIOUSLY doubt Huawei would be so stupid as to do that. And if they did, I guarantee you they would hide it very, very well.

Do you know how much malware governments make which goes undetected for years? Plenty. That's the name of the game. No way Huawei would make it that easy to get caught knowing the US would check for this...

  • Ouch. That's harsh. Did you contact their support?

  • Tim Cook meets Donald Trump and a few weeks later Huawei is banned. I mean, it's obvious. Huawei was on its way to become the #1 selling brand worldwide.

I didn't say I was ok with it but I'm saying if they can do it to Huawei they can do it to Apple as well ...

  • Apples lock in is worse for consumers than any "competition" they provide. There are enough other brands to foster competition.

Plus don't forget you Americans banned Huawei devices because they were a threat to Apple.... Under the guise of "spying" with zero evidence thereof...talk about eliminating the competition

  • Lol. Apple is at the HEART of communism and NWO. It is BIG BROTHER. That's why their devices are locked down - to lock you in...

Don't forget Apple complied with Chinese Communist government to give them access to users iCloud accounts and also banned apps Chinese government doesn't like. Meanwhile Google is still banned in china because they refused to censor the internet.

Plus on android I don't have to log into anything Google and can install open source apps to me hearts delight, with zero spyware or even install a different OS. Can't do that with apple stuff.

    Rethink your world view.
