  • It's 50/50. The last Enterprise I worked at they would NEVER agree to pay that. They'd rather get new machines

  • It will be mostly Enterprise upgrading. The average consumer buys the cheapest laptop they can get. They won't be upgrading. I think nowadays not many average consumers even use computers. They just do everything on a phone.

  • You can charge for FOSS.(Free Open Source Software). The "fee" stands for "freedom". It preserves the users right to freely inspect the code, modify it, re-use it and even sell it on unmodified or modified.

But you certainly can charge for it.

  • Really? I wasn't aware, or I'd forgotten. Can you go from non lts to lts in the same way?

  • Yes I know, sadly. But they haven't ruined those yet whereas they've ruined F1. It's completely lost it's way and is just pure entertainment and merchandising now.

  • Must be a typo. What I meant was Steve Jobs and his company took existing tech but made it appealing and usable by the average person.

  • Terrible. Appalling. Disgraceful. Clearly their engineers are stupid and their quality is sh!t.

I've never liked nor trusted electric cars and this is yet another reason not to like them. I never want to have an electric car.

Also, people should sue. Long standing manufacturers make sure their engineering and parts are of the required quality because they don't want to get sued. Tesla needs to learn their lesson by having their pockets emptied, fraud exposed and fines levied.

Maybe then they'll start to take it seriously.

I appreciate our 20+ year old Toyota Corolla even more now. 20+ years and no issues.

  • Linux Mint Debian Edition. But if you install Ubuntu or a distro with the latest gnome, you'll get all the Mac trackpad gestures as well. Cinnamon doesn't support that yet

  • No idea buddy. I think men lean towards tech more than women, generally, so men tend to be early adopters

  • Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜Š

  • Yet another stupid, anti competitive, money grabbing decision by the FIA.

We really need an alternative to the FIA and all the teams shoot move there. The FIA is a disgrace, a mafia essentially, that is destroying the sport.

I've decided I'm not renewing my F1 TV sub next year because F1 is just so rubbish now, and boring. I'd rather watch older F1 videos and other championships like GT3, WEC, Le Mans, etc

  • If it works for you then use it, however if you want the latest packages you'll have to NOT use the LTS releases in which case be prepared to do a FULL REINSTALL every time a new version comes out.

Or use the LTS but use Snaps for those applications that you want to have the latest versions of. Snaps are getting better and I think eventually you won't notice the difference between them and native apps, except for the space they just up. But that goes for Flatpak too.

Personally I use Linux Mint Debian Edition because I'm not happy with the way Canonical is going. In most cases the "old" apps are fine for me, but if I felt need the newest version I'll use a Flatpak.

Another rolling option is OpenSuse Tumbleweed however, being a Mac which uses proprietary WiFi drivers, your WiFi will break with kernel updates, which can be irritating, unless you have ethernet.

  • If you define innovate as invent something from scratch, then they did not innovate anything. Everything they've done has existed prior to them doing it. But under Steve they took those inventions and made them more usable and appealing to the common man.

That's their strength really. Make stuff easier and more enjoyable to use.

Unfortunately that has led to lock-in in order to hold onto customers. Yes, they give you convenience but you're bound to their products.

I first realised this when I had an Apple Watch and iPhone 7, then sold my iPhone and got an Android phone and the Watch became useless. Even though I had 3 Mac's and an iPad Pro, they couldn't work with Watch. You HAD to have an iPhone.

    So I sold the Watch.

Then I paved over MacOS with Linux and I'm happy. Free to use whatever, whenever, however I want to, and added YEARS to the life of my mac's which both had come to the end of support of MacOS.

My 2015 MacBook Pro and 2012 Mac Mini would be useless now if I was running OSX/MacOS and many apps wouldn't be supported or even work. New apps definitely wouldn't be supported because Mac Devs love to drop support for older versions.

On Linux they run great! Fast, fluid, can run any latest app no problem. I think Linux has probably added at least 10 years into the life of these machines.

  • Lol. You obviously have not been to Africa ๐Ÿ˜‚. Because you'd know that most of the continent doesn't have electricity and even when they do it's not regular.

They definitely will not be able to use electric cars as there is not enough for that, plus they have no network of chargers. I'm many cases the roads are mud.

So SOMEBODY will have to keep building ICE cars for Africa and other 3rd world countries in the far East.

Most European islands don't have the means to build a grid and most of them generate electricity by burning OIL. Like in Cyprus. That makes electricity very expensive. Petrol is cheaper. Plus the economies are small. The average person cannot afford an electric car, not even a new car of any sort, they import used cars from the UK. No chance in hell they will be on electric for at least another 30 years!

  • ICE engines will live on a lot longer than people think. Plus it's great entertainment for the fans.

If ICE supposedly is going away, what better way to celebrate ICE engines while you have them, than by racing them?

  • Remove the hybrid engines and return to normally aspirated petrol engines.

  • I typically never downvote anyone. I'll up upvote a post if it's saying what I was already going to say.

I don't even check vote counts, not my own nor others. I'm just here to share opinions, others and mine.

I couldn't give a dime as to whether people up or downvote me.

I don't think it's a healthy system. And I agree, as Linux users we should support community and different opinions, not squash them. The disagreements can often lead to a better solution for all.

  • That's fine. I was just saying if you wanted to recommend any other options to your friends who ask you, Podcast Republic on Android is a solid choice to consider. That's all.
