If you just sit a kid down with a textbook and a notebook to do math problems, they don't have any feedback whether what they're doing is correct. So in that capacity, I can see why it wouldn't be a great use of time. However, if there is an actual guided methodology to homework, I think you'll find that students reviewing lessons taught to them will perform far better than students who do not. What society needs to reconcile is why we send kids to school in the first place. Is it to learn? Or is it because adults HAVE to be at work and we need some kind of babysitter? It seems like the latter in North America.

In the winter, even at the most southern point (Windsor, ON) Canada gets dark around 4pm.

I'm off the clock when I leave my place of business. Unless you own your own, or you're a creative, stop doing free work at home.

Because most young people require more instruction than simply hearing the lesson taught once and never actually applying the knowledge to the assigned homework. Repetition is what creates neural pathways, and eliminating homework would be disastrous for any school board. But yeah, the day itself should probably reflect times people are generally expected to be working. It would condition students to expect those kinds of working hours as they get older, and it would help families synchronize their schedules.

Religion is control. It doesn't deliver freedom.

Wouldn't this be a gross violation of FCC regulations? I know he's got the capital to deal with any fines, but surely this would get the FCC's attention.

One does not need to invoke or debate political theory to understand the end game of Conservatives and Republicans. It's part of their ethos, and it's well defined.

That's why it should be private. No one wants to hear it. There's tons of really important stuff in my life that I keep close to the chest. And as far as don't ask don't tell, yeah I mean, that shouldn't mean repression, that should mean personal agency over your privacy.

Mental illness.

Listen, I love Sinead, but she had some serious mental health issues. She became a catholic priest after lambasting the catholic church over child sexual abuse, then left the catholic church, then converted to Islam in 2018? I think if we want to completely divulge every single issue she had in her life, it does a disservice to her memory. From my perspective, there's no reason other than mania that I can think of why someone like her would convert to a faith like Islam.

This shouldn't be surprising to anyone. And it's a death knell of the internet as we know it. It won't be today or tomorrow, but slowly, over the next few years, expect surface level internet services to be extremely user unfriendly. I expect normies to just accept their fate and pay access fees to literally every website and service they use, while more tech savvy or explorative people might find their way to federated spaces or Usenet, etc.

The value is in the forward signed, immutable ledger written by neutral consensus. This can take a lot of form and be the backbone of many types of applications (and already is used by large firms), the current market for direct public ledgers is a mess and I don’t generally agree with much of the last craze beyond the fundamentals needed to manage transfers, ownership and executions.

All of that is word salad. Blockchain is 100% redundant technology that uses obscene amounts of electricity. Why do I need a network of computers around the globe to make sure a contract and checks get signed? Why does it require a global network of computers constantly refreshing themselves and checking for inconsistencies to implement new business? If the smartest minds on Earth actually can't come up with a use case, then it's trash.

You're being downvoted, but why? Human greed also extends to consumers. We don't have to buy a thing because it was paraded around in front of us. I hate the "consumers have no agency, they have to buy stuff!" mentality. It's morally bankrupt and just results in more finger pointing and zero action. Stop buying crap.

The blame is on everyone. But if consumers.... you know.... stopped consuming so much garbage food, electronics, packaging for their shitty food and shitty electronics, cars, gasoline, etc, maybe the large companies wouldn't produce so much of it.
