  • Me-first politics is so convincing to so many people. And so easy to manipulate to benefit the powerful.

In America, Republicans I know would call Trump’s tax a great achievement because they got $50 a month in tax breaks. Meanwhile corporations and the mega wealthy were the only ones really benefiting from it.

  • We definitely have different use cases. I’m looking for the exact same thing I had on Reddit, but on a platform controlled by people that won’t sell our user experience for share prices.

Doesn’t mean I want the Nazis and homophobes here as well. But the content I enjoyed on Reddit is what I would want here. Not just fun memes and news stories, but niche communities and the great comments you’d get from Reddit.

Sounds like you didn’t like what you had on Reddit and are looking for something different.

  • Part of what makes Reddit so great is the huge community of content creators. Both the posts and comments. Lemmy has slowly been catching up, but still is far off.

Defederating from large instances will just result in lower quality content for those instances. I would hope there’d be a better solution, but I’m not smart enough to think of one.

Maybe the secret is to let each instance control their own sorting algorithm. They keep getting the content from the large instances, but control how it gets brought to the front page. My guess is this would be no small task, but that would definitely make it difficult to game the algorithm.

  • I’ve been here a while, and don’t have any desire to check out other instances. I just know that if Lemmy.world goes under, or its management starts fucking around, there are plenty of places I can go.

Leaving Reddit was not as simple.

  • I love it, but I fear for the day Lemmy becomes so popular that it is worthwhile for the corporate bots to begin gaming Lemmy’s algorithm to dominate front pages. I don’t think Lemmy is prepared to defend against this.

  • Just gonna point this out, GTA is one of the most accessible games for kids learning to play a game. Shooters are very difficult to grasp aiming with one thumb, moving with another, and shooting. Games where you have to follow instructions or solve puzzles are impossible till a kid gets the hang of games.

GTA? X button gets in and out of any car you want. Driving couldn’t be easier and is so much fun. Get out of the car and run around till you get bored, then just hop in another car.

And when you die? No reading, or lengthy instructions you need to follow. No, just spawn outside a hospital right next to another car.

I always felt like somebody needed to create a GTA clone just for kids. Everything about it should stay the exact same, just cartoonify the violence and get rid of the sex and drugs and stuff.

  • It always annoyed me when a post reached the front page and they limited who was allowed to comment on it. I usually didn’t even know what sub I was in until after I typed my comment and clicked submit. Followed by auto mod deleting my post.

I forgot how much I hated that about Reddit. Good riddance.

  • The point is that the people who were attacking Biden for his Israel policies were just Trump supporters (and literal bots) that were masquerading as passionate Israel supporter. They didn’t give a shit about who would be best for Palestine, they just wanted to get Trump elected.

We know this now by the silence from those people now. End game was achieved when Trump got elected.
