  • In what way are liberals walking back support for Trans? I’ve seen the comment from Gavin Newsom about athletics, but does that mean he has walked back all support? Or just in that one area?

Edit: I know my comments below got me banned from a number of communities for being “transphobic”, but I believe this is the exact problem with the trans activist movement.

You are actively pushing away allies because they don’t agree with you on certain issues. The net result will be (and already is) people getting elected to office that do not value ANY trans issue. If it is all or nothing, the trans movement will suffer.

    https://today.yougov.com/politics/articles/48685-where-americans-stand-on-20-transgender-policy-issues

This is a YouGov poll of people’s feelings on different trans issues. There are many that are very popular, but the issue of allowing trans athletes to play based on their gender is easily the most unpopular issue. How can you expect politicians to take up unpopular positions just because a small minority of voters care about it? They are just going to lose and give way to actual bigots.

Fact is, if the trans community thinks the issue of athletics is so important, they need to do a better job of promoting that issue. Banning allies from your communities because they don’t agree with your unpopular opinions is just bad for everybody.

  • It’s happening. I mentioned in another thread that there’s a good severance community that helps me feel like I don’t need Reddit for a show for the first time.

  • You’re forgetting the lesson of the economics collapse of 2008. Everybody suffered except for the wealthy. They actually profited off that collapse. People’s 401k’s were being wiped clean… well, who was buying those shares at record low prices?

Point being, if it looks like Musk and Trump are trying to burn down the economy, it is not through incompetence, it is knowing they will only gain power from this collapse.

  • I think major Reddit news is absolutely relevant to the Lemmy community. If nothing else, it is a good reminder of what we want from our communities and why we are here and not there. In addition, it may lead to a surge in active users.

  • The Reddit ecosystem relies on engaged users to downvote bad content and report potentially violative content.

I love how they refer to their corporate profit method as the “Reddit Ecosystem”

They make it sound like this is the universally owned and managed ecosystem that we all are responsible for maintaining and we all equally benefit from. The corporate overlords decide what they want the ecosystems to be, the rules, the content, the algorithm… All to benefit their stock prices and bonuses.

But all of a sudden it’s the community’s responsibility for maintaining THEIR rules for THEIR profit? How about fuck you Reddit.

I know this doesn’t affect me as I am plenty happy being on Lemmy, but the audacity still pisses me off.

  • Another thing is google results. When I want a recommendation for anything I will add “Reddit” to my query. This is because I know it will return great recommendations and conversations that help me decide. Hopefully I will eventually be able to just use Lemmy for this.
