The interesting thing about Lemmy being an echo chamber is that I feel like it is the 4th or 5th echo chamber I've been accused of being in.

It's starting to seem like voter suppression and propaganda were the real problems after all and not people like us being "in an echo chamber."

You got this Ukraine thing Europe, I have confidence in you. Circle back to us in 30 years or so to see if we've become better people.

I guess that's my point. If the poll is not based on anything other than bullshit, what's the point of giving it any consideration?

We may as well be discussing a poll on everyone's favorite Teletubby.

But the answer isn't to become liars, too.

Based on the sample, this seems like a disingenuous poll.

• We always deported felons. Yet, P01135809's deportation rate is actually lower than Biden's.
• We always fought to eliminate fraud and waste. The GOP has invited felons convicted of fraud into the government.
• The border isn't closed and hasn't been.

If you're asking these sorts of questions it feels more like push polling propaganda than an honest assessment of feelings.

Didn't JP Morgan accept a bailout from the "inefficient US government" in 2008 because they let greed get in the way of sustainability? I'm pretty sure they did.

That's the rub. The issues that the average voter thinks they're concerned about were spoon-fed to them by the liars. Which means we can either have Democrats also lie, or they can tell the truth and fix the actual problems.

Emotionally, this makes sense. The people didn't help them when they asked for it... Would you drag your butt out and fight for those who screwed you over?

Pragmatically, the mode of operation for MAGA is chaos. Democrats are planners who follow the rules (as we demand). What would you expect them to do with no power, no time, and no support?

It would have come off as Democrats making nothing but "making power grabs"

Even if it didn't have that outward appearance, the liars would have lied to ensure that was the message.

This isn't hypothetical partisan complaining.. the past is littered with examples of Democrats attempting to do the very things that people complain they aren't doing -- with Republicans whipping up lies to feed the electorate undermining those efforts.

Exactly. In order to promise to "fix the government" you need to lie to them and claim the government is broken, first. That's where liars have a leg up.

A lot of people here are developers or tech adjacent so I'll offer this strained analogy: this "the government is broken" narrative is tantamount to an intern hot off their Learning NodeJS course coming in and telling everyone that their complex production systems are trash and need to be completely rebuilt. That intern doesn't have any of the context, experience, or knowledge to make that determination and often creates conflicts within the team instead of just looking forward to the next iteration for improvement. Meanwhile, the professionals have to keep cleaning up their mess.

Elon Musk is this intern. Boebert, MTG, Tuberville, etc, are this intern. The GOP has been promoting and encouraging these interns and has since Reagan.

Can the government be improved? Absolutely. Should the interns be doing it? No.

Why is the first comment on half the articles here about how Democrats are responsible for what the party in power does?

It doesn't feel sincere.

That's one data point from three decades ago. If the Democrats have "done nothing" then there'd be nothing to fear from Republicans rolling back all the things "Democrats didn't do." Yet, here we are, right?

Workplace protections, loan forgiveness, the entirety of the CFPB, etc, etc, are all things Democrats have done to improve lives. To argue otherwise feels disingenuous.
