  • No because they're only doing this for Instagram users who are located in the United States. It hasn't launched anywhere else yet.

Probably because it will be quite illegal in Europe so they probably are not going to do it for European users but it hasn't launched there yet anyway so we don't know.

  • The rule of GDPR is €10,000 or 5% of annual gross earnings (not net) per incident, whichever is greater.

Even the likes of Meta don't want to deal with that kind of fine hence why Threads has not been released in the EU.

So it is totally achievable, the problem is the US government don't actually want to fix the problem because of lobbying.

  • Setting things up on fediverse is overly complicated and could be made easier.

The biggest problem is it really isn't all that clear what the pros and cons are various instances are, and the truth is that for the most part with the exception of a few particular instances it really doesn't matter.

What might make the most sense is to have a website people can sign up on and then it just registers their account on one of a few instances to spread the load. Obviously that list I would have to be curated so it didn't include obvious problematic instances, but it wouldn't be that hard to do that. And that would make it as easy as threads is which basically is just an instance when all said and done.

  • If a company makes it hard for me to cancel I won't mess around with them I'll just cancel the direct debit on my side and they can deal with it.

I will try and cancel using the approved method but really it's their responsibility to let you terminate the contract. After all what are they going to do, not let me open the contract again later on, of course they're not, so the onus is on them.

  • The government in my country are going to collapse, things what live under rocks know it, and it's basically the same thing. They have managed to dilute themselves into believing that they're all right that they're fine that they don't need to change anything that they will succeed.

Basically everyone else is watching from the sidelines, with popcorn, because we all given up trying to convince them to change.

He is truly a brainless prat.

  • I know this night sound like a dumb comment, but it's kind of worth thinking about.

Since it isn't an iOS app, they could probably make a version of it which isn't so iOS inspired, because frankly that layout is confusing to anyone who isn't used to it.

I know Apple have a way of doing things, and they're like apps to look a certain way, but if you're not used to it it's not intuitive at all.

  • It's easy to index decentralized networks is literally Google. Every website is decentralized from every other website the fact that Lemmy/kbin/Masterson sites can communicate with each of the doesn't really make any difference.
